Assignment 03: Critique of A Christian Leader
Assignment 03: Critique of A Christian Leader
Sem 1 - 2020
Assignment 03
Critique of a Christian Leader
Introduction
Leadership is influence, according to John Maxwell. However, people are more likely to follow the
example of their leader, rather than what their leader says. In this assignment, each student will
evaluate a Christian leader that they know personally. Each student will consider their leadership style,
their behaviour, their strengths and weaknesses, and so on using the leadership concepts and material
we have discussed in this course.
The goal for each student is to show that they can integrate (bring together) the class material and the
actual behaviour of a Christian leader.
NOTE: Real life does not always agree with theory. That is OK, and you should expect it. As your
teacher, I want to see that students understand the concepts of leadership and management. The best
way to show that you understand is to write in your own words and to use examples of your own.
Instructions
Format: Microsoft Word or equivalent. Do not send as a pdf file. Write in 1.5 spacing with 12pt Times
Roman font.
File name: Save your document with a clear file name that follows this format. Name_Ass3_CL.docx. For
example, I would save the document with this file name – John_Buchanan_Ass3_CL.docx. Then your
teacher can easily identify each file that is sent to him.
Details:
Identify a Christian leader whom you know and have served under.
Think about this leader: What does he or she do? How do they do it? What can you say about their
character? Do they practice self-leadership – if so how? What style or styles of leadership do you see in
them? What are their strengths? What are their weaknesses? How do they motivate people – by fear or
by rewards or do people follow them out of respect? Do they mentor and develop other leaders? Do they
give other people opportunities to serve, or do they do most things themselves? Is what they say and
what they do the same?
1. Identify the leader. Explain their position and responsibilities and give some background information
on where they serve and about their family. (200 words)
2. Discuss and critique the leader. That is, use the leadership concepts that we have covered in class to
talk about your leader. (Use the questions in the section Think about this leader above.) (700 words)
3. What kind of leader are they? Explain in your own words what kind of leader he or she is. (200 words)
4. Good points and points for improvement. Identify TWO things that you think are good about their
leadership, and TWO things that you think can be improved. Be specific and give examples. (400
words)
Remember that these reports are completely confidential. Some information will be sensitive. What
you write will only be seen by the course teacher.
