Modules Computer 4

This document outlines a module for a Computer class being taught to elementary students. It provides an overview stating the module will develop an understanding of basic computer concepts and designs through both online and offline activities. The objectives are for students to understand computers and their application in daily life. Students will have 8 weeks to complete the module, allotting time each week for formal online study, self-directed study, and assessment. The module will be broken into units covering topics like introduction to computers, classifying computers, computer functions, and hardware and software. Assessment will include practice activities to be submitted weekly for grading.

Overview

This module is aimed to develop understanding basic concepts in computer and

designs of computer. Activities are both online and offline which is suited to the

needs of different types of learners that addresses the need for learning during

this pandemic period.

Module Objectives

Students will develop and increase their understanding regarding computers and

their application to our daily lives.

Time frame

You will need an approximately 8 weeks to finish this module that composes the

first quarter of the subject. Each week, 2 days are allotted for formal study

(online) and the other 2 days for self-directed study while one day is intended for

checking of activities, assessment and evaluation.

Even though this is a distance learning program, the time frame must still be

followed strictly.

Assessment

Each unit of module is composed of practice activities and assessment and

valuation can be in form of formal and informal assessment. Assessment and

evaluation are recorded and part of computation in your grades. You are expected

to answer and submit them every Friday of the week, and also you are encouraged

to answer them faithfully.

OBJECTIVES:

Discuss computer

List down the different parts of computer that you already know.

Parts of

Computer

4
 Electronic machine that can perform different tasks. It
needs energy in order to function.

 Computer information is also called data. Computers can

process huge amounts of data very quickly.

 an electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form,
according to instructions given to it in a variable program.
 Computer can do easy and difficult tasks. It makes work easier and faster.

Computers are very important. Most

children use computers for gamming,
computations, doing assignments, making
letters and research

5
Computers are everywhere. You can find them at home and in your school. They can also be
found in offices, malls or any establishment.

We use computers for different purposes. They

help us in different ways to accomplish our jobs. Some use
computers for business purposes.

The use of computers

range from communication and transportation to leisure and
relaxation.

Classifications of Computer

SPECIFIC LEARNING
OBJECTIVES:

Analyze the different

classification of
computer

Computers are classified from the following basis :

 On the basis of size.

 On the basis of functionality.
 On the basis of data handling

Draw the complete computer set you are using in the

computer laboratory.

9
Mainframe Computer

o High level computers designed for the

most concentrated computational jobs.

It is considered as the heart of a

network or group of computers.

o The first Main frame computer is the

ENIAC (Electronic Numerical

Integrator and Computer) it can

perform about 5000 calculations per

second.

o The first main frame computer

revolutionary Sytem/360 was

introduced in 1964 by International

Business Machines Corporation.

Super Computers
 High speed computer that have the highest

processing speeds.

 They are use for solving complex problems

and creating simulations

 They are use for jobs that need large

calculations.

 They are the best to depend on for the

weather forecasting and predicting climate.

10
 Cray-1 wast he first supercomputer developed. It was first sold in 1976

Mini Computers

- Mid-level computers built to perform

computations while dealing competently with a
high level of input and output from users
connected via terminals.

- They are used by many people at the same time in

many establishments and corporations by means
of remote terminals or personal computers.

Personal Computer
- Theyb are in the form of desktop and
laptops devices that is use by a single
person.

- They come in different sizes and shapes

- They are sometimes called

microcomputers or micros

11
Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if it is not.

__________1. Minicomputers are built to perform computations while

dealing competently with a high level of input and output.

__________2. Supercomputers are the best to depend on for the weather

forecast

__________3. The first supercomputer was sold in 1999.

__________4. Mainframe computer is considered as the heart of a

network or group of computers.

__________5. The first Main frame computer is the ENIAC (Electronic

Numerical Integrator and Computer)

Have you ever wondered

13
how a computer works? In
this lesson, you will learn
how it works
The operation in a computer is like this:

14
Input

Inputting is the process of

entering information in a

computer. To communicate with

a computer, you need input

devices. You use input devices

to enter commands and

informationvlike images or

simple text. The keyboard,

mouse, joystick, scanner, and

digital camera are examples of

input devices.

15
Process

After inputting, the entered instructions must be processed. The CPU processes

commands, do calculations and heads the flow of data through a computer system.

The CPU communicates with inout, output and storage devices to work

Output

One of the most commonly

used functions in computer.

This is the result of the data

processing that is shown to

the users. The monitor and

the printer are the output

devices.

16
Storage

Refers to the device that can

save the data when the

computer is off. Flash drives,

CD’s DVD’s and memory card

are the some exaples of

storage.

17

the I.P.O.S cyle.

SPECIFIC LEARNING
OBJECTIVES:

Differentiate :
Hardware, Software and
Peopleware

List down the things you can touch and the things you can’t touch in

computer.

I can touch I can’t touch

There are three basic components that are needed by computers fro them

to work successfully. These are the hardware, software and peopleware.

21
 Hardware components are those that you can see and touch.

Hardware is also divided into parts such as input devices, system

units, output devices and storage devices.

 Software components are the programs and applications that can be

run into your computer system. A word processow is an xample of a

software.

22
Peopleware are the persons who operateand use computers.

Draw examples of the following :
