HOW TO GET AND INSTALL A QUESTASIM 10.2c RELEASE
===================================================

*** IMPORTANT LICENSING CHANGE ***

*** IMPORTANT LICENSING CHANGE ***
*** IMPORTANT LICENSING CHANGE ***

Release 10.2 uses FLEXnet v11.10. The vendor daemons and lmgrd
that are shipped with this release will be FLEXnet version 11.10.
For floating licenses it will be necessary to verify that the
vendor daemon (i.e., mgcld) and the license server (i.e., lmgrd)
have FLEXnet versions equal to or greater than 11.10. If the
current FLEXnet version of your vendor daemon and lmgrd are less
than 11.10 then it will be necessary to stop your license server
and restart it using the vendor daemon and lmgrd contained in this
release.
If you use node locked licenses you don't need to do anything. This
release will update licensing to MSL v2012_2patch1 with MGLS v9.7_2.3
and PCLS v9.7.2.4.

PCLS has a new version format to better track with the associated
MGLS version.

In summary, this release uses the following license versions:

+ FLEXnet v11.10
+ MSL v2012_2patch1
+ MGLS v9.7_2.3
+ PCLS v9.7.2.4

DOWNLOAD/INSTALL NOTE:
When downloading UNIX executables with the ".mis" file extension on a Windows box,
please make sure that the "Save As Type"  is set to "All Files".
This is important in order to preserve the ".mis" extension. Otherwise Windows may
append the ".mis" extension with an additional extension which will cause problems
with your installation.

Never overlay a new Questa Sim release over the top of an old release.
Either remove the old release first or install the new release to a
different location. For win32 installations always use uninstall to
remove an old release. Using uninstall will remove the the old releases'
registry entry. For Unix or Linux installations you can simply delete
the old release.

Never do multiple Windows installs into the same target folder/directory.

Always use a new folder/directory as the target for each Windows install.

The release directory contains the following files:

-- Common files --
INSTALL_NOTES This file.
RELEASE_NOTES Release notes for current release.
questa_afv_10.2_install.pdf Installation details.
mgc_licen.pdf Licensing details.

1) Install Release

-- For Unix or Linux --

A complete release contains the install file, the base install file, the platform
specific install file(s) for your machine type(s) and the documentation install
file.

The installer file, the base install file, the documentation install file and all
platform specific install files need to be downloaded to the same directory
location.

Execute the Installer file (install.<platform>) specific to the platform you are
installing from to begin the installation process.

If you are installing from a x86 or x86_64 desktop running Linux, use install.linux

Use the MSI interface to install the tool to the locations required. The MSI
interface provides documentation by selecting the Help button at the top of the
window.

Add the Questa Sim executables directory to your PATH environment variable:

PATH=<install_path>/<platform>

where <platform> can be linux, or linux_x86_64.

-- For Windows --

Never do multiple Windows installs into the same target folder/directory.

Always use a new folder/directory as the target for each Windows install.

win32:
questasim-win32-10.2c.exe Double click the file to install Questa Sim
win64:
questasim-win64-10.2c.exe Double click the file to install Questa Sim

ADDITIONAL REGISTER ASSISTANT UVM INSTALLATION:

Double click on the regassistuvm_<version>_win.exe to install Register
Assistant UVM into the <install_path questasim> folder.

ADDITIONAL SYSTEMC INSTALLATION:

copy questasim-gcc-4.2.1-mingw32vc9.zip into the <install_path questasim> folder
Open up the zip file questasim-gcc-4.2.1-mingw32vc9.zip and extract the contents
into this <install_path questasim> folder.

win64 does not support systemc

At this point, the installed questasim directory contains all the base files, the
docs files and the platform specific executables. For SystemC, it should also
contain gcc executables.
