Amino Acids: Polar

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and can be classified as polar, neutral, acidic, or basic. Neutral amino acids like tyrosine, serine, and threonine play various roles in metabolism, the central nervous system, and healing. Acidic amino acids like glutamic acid and aspartic acid are involved in nerve cell communication and various cellular processes. Basic amino acids like lysine and histidine help produce hormones and enzymes and regulate pH. Non-polar amino acids can have alkyl or aromatic groups and perform functions like regulating digestion, providing energy, and synthesizing proteins and melanin.
