Analytical reports offer both information and analysis, but they also include recommendations.
Offering recommendations is the biggest difference between informational and analytical
reporting.

Informational report: An informational report is one that contains details


information without analysis or recommendation.

 Objective: to carry information from one area of business to another.


 Readers/users: Officers, board of directors and stockholders of the
company usually read such a report.
 Example: Annual reports, progress reports, statement of policies and
procedures.
 Length: relatively short.
 Decision making: it is less helpful in making instant decision because it
don’t have analysis.

Analytical report: Analytical report is one that presents, analyzes, interprets


information and makes recommendations on complex and critical problems.

 Objective: to solve problems.


 Readers/users: Top-level management
 Example: suggestion reports, recommendations reports, justification
reports.
 Length: the maximum length.
 Decision making: it is useful in making instant decision because its
interprets information and makes recommendations.
