A fox said to a crow with a piece of cheese between its beak,


“If you can sing as pretty as you sit, then you are the prettiest
singer.”
The fox thought that once the crow starts to sing, the
cheese would drop from her beak. But the crow carefully removed
the cheese with her claws of one foot, and said, “They say you are
sly, but you cannot fool me.” Not giving up, the fox continued to
praise the crow. “You are really talented and famous. I wish I
could hear you tell about your talents but I have to look for food
because I’m hungry.”

“Wait!” called the crow quickly. “Here, have a share of my
lunch while you listen as I tell about myself.”
After a while, the fox, stroking his tummy and with a smile
on his face, bade goodbye to the crow who was still talking.

Read the selection. Find out what happened to a boy during


a water procession held in Bulacan.

On the first Saturday of July, the Feast of the Cross of Wawa


is celebrated in Bocaue, Bulacan. Each year, there is a procession
to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her image is placed on a
pagoda. A pagoda is a kind of water transportation built for a
parade. It is made of bamboo and is paraded along the river.
On July 2, 1993, a pagoda carried the Virgin Mary and
hundreds of devotees. This sank underneath the river. Many of
the people did not know how to swim. They shouted for help and
gasped for air to breathe. Many of the children drowned. It could
have been more if not for a brave little boy.

This boy courageously swam towards the other drowning
children. One by one he saved them. He carried each one as he
swam to the riverbank. But unluckily, a big post from the sinking
pagoda fell on him.
This brave boy is Sajid Bulig. For the children he saved, he
was a little hero.
