1.1.1 Type of Business Organization and Background


Karihome is an international organization shared by Orient EuroPharma (OEP) and Dairy
Goat Co-operative (DGC). The brand name Karihome was actually inspired by “Karitane”, a
parenting service in New Zealand. Karihome is a manufacturer that produces goods (mainly goat
milk) that are sold to the distributor - DKSH, to be then distributed to other retailers.
OEP established the Karihome brand in 1986 and eventually became the leading position
of goat milk powder manufacturers in Taiwan. Karihome then collaborated with New Zealand
Dairy Cooperative to produce high quality infant goat milk powder in 1989. Since 2000, OEP
has established subsidiaries company in Asia, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the
Philippines. Then in 2016, the company has established subsidiary companies Mainland China,
and is slowly but steadily growing in the Asia Pacific markets. The mission of OEP is enhancing
health and beauty, and the organization continuously offers valuable products to their customers.

1.1.2 Products
The company produces natural nutritious products and distribute the demanding goods to
other pharma supply chain so they can be sold to customers. The products that are available in
Malaysia are Goat Milk Powder and Goat Milk Sweeties.
Goat Milk Powder consists of two categories which are divided into the children formula
and the adult formula and it is fully imported from New Zealand Farms to ensure clean and pure
milk source. Karihome Goat Milk with Children Formula utilizes natural whole milk and
minimal heating process to produce the most natural product for children below the age of 7. The
Children Formula has 2 types which are Karihome Growing-Up Formula and Karihome
Preschool Formula. Karihome’s Growing-Up Formula milk is enhanced with the natural
goodness of goat’s milk in order to supply the nutrition to growing toddlers and young children.
The Growing Formula milk powder is suitable for children aging from 1 to 3 years old.
Moreover, Karihome’s Preschool Formula is an enhanced version of Karihome Growing-Up
Formula. The nutrition of Karihome’s Preschool Formula is modified to meet the nutritional
needs age group from 3 to 7 years old.
The adult formula of Goat Milk Powder is produced from fresh milk, which only has the
water removed and it is for 7 years old and above. The goat milk powder can be mixed in water
to produce crisp and wholesome drink that provides the unique nutritional benefits of goat milk.
Besides, the company also produces Sweeties which are made from the Karihome Goat
Milk Formula from New Zealand. It consists of a wide variety of flavours which are Assorted
Flavour, Blueberry, Chocolate, Strawberry and Yogurt Flavour. The Sweeties are consumable by
Children aging of 1 years and above because of its chewy texture.
1.3 Functional Areas of the Company

Finance Function → The finance department is in charge with the money aspects of the
company. It also deals with the collection, recording, presentation and analysis of the company’s
financial data.

Marketing Function → The marketing department is directly in contact with the customers they
serve and to respond to their needs. They are in charge of planning events and advertising as
well.

Sales Function→ The sales department promote product directly to consumers in order to build
up brand awareness. Sales department also take stock order from retailer and collect payment.

Research and Development Function → The company invests funds in research and
development to improve the products they already produce, such as goat milk powder.

Human Resource Function → The HR department deals with the human resource of the
company. So, all management activities related to employees such as employee personal issues,
medical certificates, annual leave and medical claim can be placed under the human resource
function.
