Question 1: Write the differences between vacuum tube & transistor.
Answer:
Transistor and vacuum tube both are almost same in conceptually. Transistors are
used in small integrated circuits which require low voltage supply and Vacuum tubes
are used in high power applications. In the manner of size, the transistor is smaller
than vacuum tubes. Vacuum tubes are really big and very hot. It uses lots of
electricity.
Question 2: What are the different types of memory devices? Write the differences between
RAM & ROM.
Answer:
Memory devices: RAM,SRAM,DRAM,ROM, PROM,EPROM,EEPROM.
1. The key difference between RAM and ROM is that RAM is basically a read-
write memory whereas, ROM is a read only memory.
2. RAM temporarily stores the data that have to be processed by CPU currently.
On the other hands, ROM stores the instructions that are required during
Bootstrap.
3. RAM is a volatile memory. However, ROM is a nonvolatile memory.
4. On the one hand, where the data in RAM can be modified easily, the data in
ROM can be hardly or never be modified.
5. The RAM can range from 64 MB to 4 GB whereas, the ROM is smaller than
RAM.
6. RAM is costlier than ROM.
7. RAM can be classified into static and Dynamic RAM. On the other hands,
ROM can be classified into PROM, EPROM and EEPROM.
Question 3: Explain transducer, signal conditioner & op-amp.
Answer:
1. Transducer: A transducer is a device that converts energy from one form to
another. Usually a transducer converts a signal in one form of energy to a signal
in another. Transducers are often employed at the boundaries of automation,
measurement, and control systems, where electrical signals are converted to and
from other physical quantities (energy, force, torque, light, motion, position, etc.).
2. Signal conditioner: Signal conditioning is a process of data acquisition, and an
instrument called a signal conditioner is used to perform this process. This
instrument converts one type of electrical or mechanical signal (input-signal) into
another (output-signal). The purpose is to amplify and convert this signal into an
easy to read and compatible form for data-acquisition or machine-control.
3. Op-amp: An op-amp is a circuit unit with a high magnification. In a real circuit, a
functional module is usually formed in conjunction with a feedback network. It is
an amplifier with special coupling circuits and feedback. Its output signal can be
the result of mathematical operations such as input signal addition, subtraction
,division,integration and differentiation.
Question 4: Explain second order low pass filter with block diagram.
Answer:
A second order filter would have two capacitors or two inductors or one capacitor
and one inductor, that affects the filter's frequency response.
Question 5: Draw the block diagram of flash ADC & sigma delta converter.
Answer:
1. The block diagram of flash ADC
2. The block diagram of sigma delta converter
