2. Define Response spectra. Explain the concept and types of response spectra with neat sketch.
3. Three storeyed symmetrical RC school building situated at bhuj with the following data.
Plan dimensions : 7.2 m
Storey height : 3.6 m
1
Total weight of beams in a storey : 135 kN
Total weight of slab in storey : 260 kN
Total weight of column in a storey : 55 kN
Total weight of walls in a storey : 540 kN.
Live load : 140 kN
Weight of terrace floor : 660 kN.
The structure is resting on hard rock.
Determine the total base and lateral loads at each floor level for 5% damping using seismic
coefficient method.
5. A fixed ended RC beam of Rectangular section has to carry a distributed live load
of 20 kN/m in addition to its own weight and dead load of 25kN/m. The maximum
bending moment and Shear Forces due to earthquake are 60kNm & 40kNm
respectively. The centre to centre distance support is 6m.Design the beam using
M20 grade concrete & Fe 415 steel grade.
6. Design a shear wall of length 4.16m and thickness 250mm subjected to following
forces. Assume Fck=25 & Fy= 415 N/mm2
Loading Axial forces Moments Shear
Dead load + Live load 1950 600 20
Seismic load 250 4800 700
