    RATIONALE

    An inter-level competition by means of constructing a Rube-Goldberg Design.


    This competition teaches students to be innovative in designing that can use recyclable
    materials plus this also teaches them to be more complex minded and imaginative.

    INTRODUCTION

    This event is a half day activity, whose participants will come from different
    schools around Bicol Region taking up Civil Engineering. They will be given three (3)
    hours to prepare their rubes including the set ups and trials. One representative from
    each team will discuss the flow of reactions to the event facilitators. Around 11 am the
    testing of Rube Goldberg will happen. Each Rube Goldberg has 3 trials.

    OBJECTIVES

    The event aims to accomplish the following goals:

    a. To promote practice, principles and application of Civil Engineering


    b. To develop leadership and cooperation in creating a Rube Goldberg using the
    recyclable materials.
    c. To promote camaraderie among students
    d. To awaken competitive spirit among students
    CONTEST MECHANICS

    A. QUALIFICATIONS

    1. The competition is open to all PICE Student Chapter Members in good


    standing.

    2. A team shall consist of not more than 10 members per student chapter.
    Only one (1) team per student chapter as endorsed by the Chapter
    Adviser shall be accepted. The latter shall endorse only (1) team per
    student chapter. The team members must be registered participants in
    the Regional Civil Engineering Students’ Summit.

    3. Registration fee per team is Php _________. Submit the accomplished


    entry form together with the PICE membership ID, school ID of team
    members, the title of the entry and description how the machine will work
    and proof of registration to the PICE BU ___ on ______. The school ID of
    a team members must be worn during the duration of the competition.

    4. All entries shall be exhibited during the entire duration of the competition
    at the designated venue.

    B. TECHNICAL RULES AND SPECIFICATIONS

    1. A 2 ft x 2 ft or equivalent area of 4 square feet platform should be


    constructed for the machine with a simple secure way to fasten it
    together. Steps that bridge machines sections should be easy to
    connect. The rest of the machine is up to the participants.

    2. The machine should WAVE A HAND. The starting point is to


    DROP A COIN (Like in a vending machine).

    3. Have a minimum of six steps, there is no maximum of steps. Run


    for no more than 300 seconds (5 minutes) per run, from start to
    finish

    4. Every team must have a leader. The best of the three trials with a
    reset of each run will be considered. ONLY two people can may
    touch the machine while it is being reset. No repairs will be allowed
    during the run.

    5. There will be no time limit, no cost limit and no limit on the materials
    to be used. Your imagination is your only limit. But of course,
    should not be expensive, recoverable and recycled materials such
    as old toys, scrapped materials or old pieces of appliances are
    highly recommended.
    6. A detailed description of the entry is needed with total number of
    reactions written.

    7. Only two members of the team shall be allowed to assist the judges
    during the testing.

    8. Judging is on September 8, 2019 at Legazpi City, Albay, 8:00AM to


    12 noon, including set-up of the machine.

    7:30 AM – 8:00 AM Log-in for Paticipants


    8:00 AM – 11:00 AM Preparation/set ups of rube
    11:00 AM – 12:00 NOON Testing of the Rube Goldberg
