A. Pre-Activity
1. Review
Review the terms intensity and magnitude.
Ask: What are the difference between intensity and magnitude?
Show a sample scale of intensity with a Rossi-Forrel Scale and let the pupils describe
the intensity of an earthquake.
2. Motivation
Show a picture of Loma Prieta Earthquake and let the pupils observe.

Ask: What do you think happened in the place shown in the picture?
Have you ever experienced earthquake?
How long did the shake last?
Why do you think the ground and the buildings on it shook?
3. Presentation
Show motion pictures of landslide and tsunami.

Ask: What do you think is the cause of the events in the picture?
What are the harmful effects of earthquakes?
Do you know of other instances of landslides and tsunamis occurring in the Philippines?
Describe the extent of damage brought by these natural disasters.
