Functional Principle The program introduces itself

The program introduces itself

Cutting and flat glass production technology have reached a high degree of
sophistication. The production speed has been optimized too.
The main potential for rationalisation now lies in the improvement of yield and
in buffer optimization.
Sequence Optimizer is a Windows-based optimization program with a simple
and comfortable user interface.
Sequence Optimizer will produce good yield within only a short time. This is
accompanied by material saving and thus, considerably reduced costs.
Sequence Optimizer can be configured to suit your individual needs.
Master data are used to manage optimization parameters, glass articles, etc.
Input and maintenance of master data is easy and requires no special training.
The item input menu is clearly structured and designed for quick input. The
data to be optimized can be loaded from a server for further processing. Get-
ting a result out of the selected order items just takes a few steps or mouse-
clicks.
Optimization results are available as lists, or graphics. The graphic display of
results allows to edit the patterns quickly, e.g. with the Copy and Paste func-
tion.

Hardware protection
Sequence Optimizer is protected against unauthorised use by a dongle
which is simply plugged into the parallel interface of your PCgesteckt!
Sequence Optimizer can be run only with this dongle.

Article
Article master data will help you to avoid redundant input of article data. For
every product you want to use, you define features such as thickness, surchar-
ges, trim, etc. In a second step, you define the stockplates belonging to this
product.
The defined articles can be easily selected by means of the product name
(combo boxes).
Apart from that, Article master data will help you with stock management.
When new patterns are created, the corresponding number of stockplates will
be withdrawn from the defined number of stockplates.

14 Sequence Optimizer Functional Principle

Functional Principle Quick start

Tab General
Tab General allows to define general program features. This includes the pro-
gram language (can be changed during the runtime), the use of optimization
files, and changing the password for master data.

Password-protected area
Master data are password-protected. Right after program installation, this
code is 1111; it should be changed immediately after installation!

 Software Reference, “Tab General” on page A-131

Tab Tables
Defines the target for the machinery code files for the cutting tables to be con-
trolled. You can enter the same target for all cutting tables, or a separate target
per cutting table.
 Software Reference, “Tab Tables” on page A-133

Tab Benders
Defines the target for the machinery code files for the benders to be controlled.
You can enter the same target for all benders, or a separate target per bender.
 Software Reference, “Tab Benders” on page A-134

Tab Lists
Lists (reports) are an efficient way of editing information. The program comes
with a number of standard lists. Special lists can be created on request. Lists
are stored as files in the program sub-directory Reports\Output or Reports\In-
put. Select the lists that can be used in the program (the list being shown as
an entry in the table)., and the standard lists to be used (tick the checkbox in
front of the list).
 Software Reference, “Tab Lists” on page A-135

Tab XOPT-Orga
Tab XOPT-Orga offers two types of organisation:
• Logical Racks
• Size Categories

Logical Racks
Logical racks are used to define the racks you will be using. You can distingu-
ish A racks and harp racks. Enter an ID and a description for every rack. For
harp racks you can also define the number of slots. For A racks, the rack depth
can be entered. Apart from that you can enter rack number areas for the indi-
vidual rack types.
2.10 / 03-2014

Sequence Optimizer Functional Principle 15

Quick start Functional Principle

Size Categories
With this rack organisation, lites are put onto racks acc. to their edge length.
The Group by fields define if the short or the long edge of the surrounding rec-
tangle shall be used for analysis. If the shorter edge is chosen, you also have
to enter the maximum ratio of short and long edge because it may not make
sense to set a narrow but high lite onto the shorter edge. When the system
analyses the edge lengths and detects an item that does not match the defined
ratio, it will use the longer edge for this item (even if defined differently in mas-
ter data).
You can also enter fixed rack numbers for special lites; the edge length of the-
se lites will not be analysed but they are just put onto the corresponding racks.
Special properties are:
• Shapes
• Items with large quantities (series). Field Series/quantities defines the
number of lites from which on an item is considered a series.
• Special lites (file LABEL.SET contains the fixed field SO_GLAS which is
used for analysis). Field SO_GLAS can e.g. be filled at order entry with ex-
tra text.

Labels
Create labels acc. to your requirements or amend existing labels. The label
generator will support your work with easily-to-use tools. Just a few mouse
clicks will produce expressive and clear labels that match the given pattern.
Select the label pattern for the current printout in dialog Output.

16 Sequence Optimizer Functional Principle

Functional Principle Input of Data

Input of Data
Sequence Optimizer manages the order items to be optimized in different files
or file types. These files/file types represent the grouping of items by priorities
and/or glass article. A file of the type Filler sizes can e.g. be used to save items
with one glass article. Optimization can use this file automatically to improve
the yield of files of the type Order items with the same glass article.
Unlike files of the type Production files, other file types can include just one
glass article per file. Existing files can be changed anytime (add, change, or
delete items). Individual order items can be split onto several files/file types
acc. to user-defined criteria.

Notes on file types

The individual file types differ e. g. with regard to the priorities set in the in-
put menu. Editing production files also requires a slightly different method.
The system will point this out to you where necessary.

The further procedure could be:

• “Creating a New File” on page A-80
• “How to Open a File” on page A-81
• “How to Enter a New Item” on page A-82
• “How to Edit an Item” on page A-82

Entering Sizes in Inch

If Inch has been set as a measure when the program is installed, you can enter
sizes in the following way.
To get e.g. 12"1/4, enter:
Number1 Blank Number2 Blank Number3
12 Blank 1 Blank 4
The program will automatically add the symbols " and /
The numbers could look as follows:
Number1 = 3 digits
Number2 = 2-3 digits (for 1/128 Inch)
Number3 = 2-3 digits (for 1/128 Inch)
For the quick input of sizes in entire inches, you can enter Number1 and press
the Return/Enter key. The program will automatically add " to the Number1 and
goes to the next field.
If Number1 has more than three digits, the fourth digit will be an inch symbol
("). After that you can enter two digits for Number2; a slash will be automati-
cally added for the third or fourth digit, and you can enter the last digit.
You can also enter the inches as decimals (12,25).

Conversion of measures
Measures already entered in the database will not be converted!

How to Enter a New Item

Input of a new item is the same for new and existing files. You only have to
make the distinction between the file types, especially fiel type Production
files. Selection of the article(s) here differs from the other file types. The menu
for entering a new item looks the same for all file types. If you have created a
new file or opened an existing file, the dialog can look as follows:

Illustr. A-5 How to enter a new item

Click on button [Insert] or press <Insert> button to create a new item. If there
are existing records, the data of the tagged items will be adopted for the new
item; the rack number will be raised automatically.

Just change the required fields.

After item input you can quit the menu by clicking on [Close]. The data will be
automatically saved in the file (file name in the first field at the top of the menu).
You can change this file name to create a new file of the same type.

Temporary saving
If you have to enter a bulk of data you can use the button [Save] (or functi-
noal key <F10>) to buffer your entries.

24 Sequence Optimizer Functional Principle

Functional Principle Input of Data

File Types
Sequence Optimizer manages the order items to be optimized in different files
or file types. These files/file types represent the grouping of items by priorities
and/or glass article. You can change the defined priority within a file type for
individual items. This will affect the optimization of this item, depending on the
selected priority.
Sequence Optimizer uses the following file types:
• Order Items

• Filler Sizes

Order Items
Files of the order item type contain items the lites of which will all be included
in the optimization (if the defined priority is kept). All lites have the same glass
product and - at first - the same priority. If this file type has been chosen for the
items, the priority in the input menu is preset with 1. This should be changed
only in special circumstances.

Input of Data Functional Principle

Filler Sizes
Files of the type filler sizes contain items with lites that will be used to improve
the yield or to fill the residue plate for optimization. Optimization decides whe-
ther and how many lites will be optimized. After the lites have been withdrawn
by optimization, the items will be updated in the file. All lites have the same
glass product and the same defined priority. If this file type has been chosen
for the items, the priority in the input menu is preset with 2. This should be
changed only in special circumstances.

Residue Items
These files contain items with lites from resolved cutting plans from previous
optimizations.
After optimization, you can resolve the cutting patterns, i.e. individual patterns
(cutting plans) will not be transferred to automatic cutting. Usually, one just re-
solves the pattern on the residue plate (the unused remainder of the last stock-
plate) of the optimization if it contains just a few lites and if it would be
ineffective to have this stockplate cut automatically.
Files with residue items will be created by optimization job. A file with residue
items contains the lites of the resolved patterns, by order item. The file with the
residue items only contains the lites of the resolved patters, the priority will be
determined automatically. This setting should only be changed in special cir-
cumstances.

Production Files
Production files can include up to three different glass products per unit.
Usually, production files are transferred from a server (order entry, ALFAK,
AWPool etc.) to Sequence Optimizer. They contain order items for IG, lamina-
ted glass, etc. with maximally three lites per unit. Production files can contain
different glass products. If this file type has been chosen for the items, the pri-
ority in the input menu is preset with 1. This should be changed only in special
circumstances.
You can of course enter production files by hand!

Breakage
You can define order items from a withdrawn optimization that shall be reopti-
mized. The order item - with a random number of lites - will be saved in a re-
sidue item file and can be reoptimized.
The name of the residue item file consists of the letters BRK and the optimiza-
tion number of the withdrawn optimization to which the selected order item be-
longs.
This allows to enter remakes without having to re-enter the whole order item.

Quick Optimization
This file type allows the direct input of the items to be optimized. Filed File
name is preset by QUICKOPT and field Description with Quick optimization.
After entering the corresponding items you can use the [Optimize] button to
access the optimization directly.
The following input fields can be disabled for data input in the registration da-
tabase:
• Customer
• Edgework
• Order item
• Order number
• Priority
• Reference
• 2nd glass name
• Shape number
• AIR1/2

Priorities
The priorities influence the optimization process. The individual file types have
certain standard priorities.
Sequence Optimizer currently offers the following priorities:
• Order items = 1,
• Filler sizes = 2, 3, 4
• Residue items = 0,
• Production files = 1.
This means that all items you add to a file will get the priority defined for this
file type! This setting should only be changed in special circumstances.

Changing the priorities

Since optimization uses the priorities for planning purposes, you should be
careful when you change the priorities for a file type.

28 Sequence Optimizer Functional Principle

Functional Principle Input of Data

Description of priorities
Follows a detailed description of priorities:

Priority 0
Priority 0 marks Express lites. All lites of this priority will be used on the first
cutting plans.

Priority 1
Priority 1 marks Common lites. All lites of this priority have to be optimized but
can be used in any cutting plan.

Priority 2
Priority 2 marks Filler sizes. These lites can be used to improve the yield (more
stockplates may be required!).

Priority 3
Priority 3 are also Filler sizes. These lites are handled like priority 2. Lites of
this priority that are used in the same optimization as lites of priority 2, will be
used for yield improvement to a lower extent.

Priority 4
Priority 4 are lites that are only used to fill up waste within the cutting plan, and
to fill the residue plate. This does not mean that more stockplates will be re-
quired.

Priority 5-9
Lites of priority 5 to 9 have the same attributes as those of priority 0 to 4, but
they cannot be rotated (even if in article master data, the field Rotate is acti-
ve!).

Data Import Functional Principle

Data Import
Sequence Optimizer can import data from a server by means of ASCII files.
These files may be quite complex. They can include a single order item with
several items that all have the same article, or a mixture of different order items
and e.g. various production files (an item can have several, different articles)
that shall be processed by Sequence Optimizer.
For each of these groups within the imported file, a file of the Sequence Opti-
mizer pattern will be created. These files can be edited or passed on to opti-
mization right away.

External order data

When external order data are imported (XHOSTINP files), the articles are
created at import and may have to be edited!

The further procedure could be:

• “Receive Data from Host” on page A-30

Receive Data from Host

Start the import of an XHOSTINP file via menu File > Import data from host,
the corresponding button on the tool bar, or the hardkey <Crtl> + <R>.
The file XHOSTINP.ASC can transfer several jobs to Sequence Optimizer.
Every job is represented by a so-called header in the XHOSTINP file.
Sequence Optimizer will create a new file for every header, based on the file
type. These files can be edited further or optimized right away.
If unknown articles are detected at file import, these will be automatically crea-
ted and may have to be edited!

When external order data are imported (XHOSTINP.ASC files), articles
have to be created for the imported items!

Functional Principle Data Import

DXF Import
This function allows to import free shapes (Shape99) which were exported by
a CAD system for instance. Please obey the restrictions (see below). Free
shapes can be selected from a special dialog during data input.
The DXF import menu offers the following options to control the import:
Option 1: Select a layer or all layers (*) for import. DXF import searches for a
closed contour on the selected layers. Import is completed when a closed con-
tour has been found.
Option 2: Select option Import all layers. The program will import all segments
from all layers into one shape! There have to be no closed contours!

Procedure 1:
• Click on the required layer in the top section of the dialog, or use "*" (aste-
risk) to select all layers to be imported. The system only considers layers
with a closed contour.
• Enter a name for the shape to be imported in field Shape name. You will
find the free shape by this name at data input. If you select all layers (*), the
system will automatically attach to the name entered by you the layer name
containing the valid shape.
• Select a measure for the shapes to be imported.
• Enter the size for the trim. The [Import] button is active now.
• Click on button [Import].
• A message window shows the result of the import.

Requirements
Please obey the following requirements for the import of free shapes:
1. A layer has to include at least one closed contour. 2. Only ARC-, line-
and circle-entities can be handled.

Procedure 2:
• Choose the option Import all layers. All segments of all layers will be impor-
ted.
• Sort (option)
Choose this option to optimize the cutting path. Starting from the segment
end, the program will search for the starting point of the nearest element.
This is independent of the position of the segments on the layers.
Exception: Circles will always be cut last!

Sort
This option is only active in connection with the option Import all layers.

• Enter a name for the shape to be imported in field Shape name. You will
find the free shape by this name at data input.
• Select a measure for the shapes to be imported.
• Enter the size for the trim. The [Import] button is active now.
• Press the [Import] button.

anti-clockwise, refer to the other edges. The number of entries depends on the
selected lite.
Positive entries for the shift will move the edge towards the outside! Negative
entries will move the edge inwards! The surrounding rectangle is adapted to
the amended shape.
The input for the selected edge is made in field Shift. You can also use the but-
ton [Enter]/[Return] to select the following value (and with this, the next edge)
from the list in field Edge shift and enter a number in field Shift.

Edge shift depending on an adjacent edge

To shift an edge depending on one of the adjacent edges, select the edge to
be shifted in window Edge shift, enter the size for the edge shift in field Shift
and press the following buttons:

Next If the shift is to refer to the following edge, anti-clockwise!

Previous If the shift is to refer to the previous edge, anti-clockwise!

The corresponding edge will be changed by the defined value, the shift for the
selected edge will be calculated, and the shape amended!

Positive and negative edge shifts

Positive entries for the shift will extend the adjacent edge, and will thus
move the selected edge to the outside! Negative entries will shorten the ad-
jacent edge, and move the selected edge inwards!

If the selected edges and the adjacent edge are at right angles, this type of
shift has the same effect as a direct edge shift.
As an example for the effects of the indirect edge shift, the same shape edge
was directly moved by 50 mm towards the outside in the first picture (size input
and Return/Enter button), and in the second picture, indirectly via the next
edge (button Next after entering 50 mm).

Optimization Functional Principle

Optimization
Optimization will combine items from one or more files in an optimization pool;
optimization is started with the defined stocksizes and optimization parame-
ters. You can import all file types into the optimization pool. Still, you need to
consider the priorities. The items from files of the type Filler sizes (priority 2, 3
and 4) will be considered for optimization only if they serve to improve the ove-
rall yield.
Each optimization is automatically marked by an optimization number. After
optimization, this number is raised by 1. The maximum optimization number
can be defined in master data.
 Software Reference, “Optimization Number” on page A-132
The result of an optimization is the optimum distribution of stockplates for an
article, considerieng the defined optimization parameters.
If the optimization result is satisfactory, the optimization can be booked. The
items involved will be deleted. If all items of a file have been considered for
optimization, the file will be deleted! The system writes an optimization file
which can be opened again via the results menu, e.g. for printing labels.

Group Numbers
All items that are transferred to the optimization pool (section Optimization
items) will automatically get group number 1. If the maximum number of items
per optimization group has been reached, the items will get the next higher
group number (2). This setting can be kept for most optimizations! To keep in-
dividual items together at cutting, you have to allocate a special group number.
You can e.g. keep orders together by assigning the same group number to the
individual order items!
Disadvantage: A group always starts with a new subplate! This may affect the
overall yield if the previous group does not fill the entire subplate or if the
groups do not consist of enough items/lites!

Sequence Optimizer Functional Principle 45

Database Functional Principle

Database
This chapter provides information on the database.

Repairing a Damaged Database

In most cases, Sequence Optimizer will detect that the database is damaged
when it tries to open or compress it.
If such an error message appears, you can use menu File > Repair Database
to repair the database. Dialog Open Database ... will ask you to select a data-
base first. Accept the suggested database name.

Repair Database
Close all windows except the program window before repairing the databa-
se. After repairing the database you should reboot the program.

Compress Database
Sequence Optimizer uses a database in the background. Large data volumes
are handled without the user noticing it. This may lead to database fragmen-
ting and to an inefficient use of the hard disk memory.

Compress Database
The database is compressed automatically.

Functional Principle Manual Cutting Plan Editor

Manual Cutting Plan Editor

The manual cutting plan editor shows the cutting plan data in a table and gra-
phically. It can be used as an independent program or as an Add-In. Operation
is the same in both cases. If the cutting plan editor is used as an independent
program, patterns can be created, edited, and saved. In this case, the program
offers independent master data management for the required articles and cut-
ting table parameters. The intuitive program and menu guidance quickly pro-
duces the required result. The integrated program version shows the results
from previous optimizations which can be displayed as cutting patterns or edi-
ted by means of the graphic editor. In this case, the program has no own menu!
An additional [Close] button is integrated in the menu which will bring you back
to the loading program.

Result Display Summary

This dialog shows the results from previous optimizations or patterns that have
been edited by means of the graphic editor.

Illustr. A-16 Show result

The window is split into three areas. The bottom section (C) shows the table
with the patterns resulting from optimization while the top left section (A) pro-
vides details on the entire optimization. The buttons on the right (B) allow to
save (modified) results or load saved results.
2.10 / 03-2014

Individual patterns can be resolved to improve the yield.

Sequence Optimizer Functional Principle 47

Manual Cutting Plan Editor Functional Principle

The lites of the resolved pattern are saved in a file (residue items) and are
available under the defined file name for new optimization jobs.
You can open the results menu by clicking on the button [Show result]. When
optimization has been successful, you can click on the button [Result] (in the
optimization menu) to go to the results menu which shows the current optimi-
zation result. Menu Optimization > Show result will also open the dialog Re-
sult.
Double-click on a pattern on the table (except in column Resolved) to go to the
graphics editor.

Functional Principle Manual Cutting Plan Editor

The Graphics Editor

The manual cutting plan editor allows the graphic display of cutting patterns
created at optimization. The display matches the stockplate or residue plate to
be cut and provides all essential information on the optimization, the article,
and the individual lites.
The context menu of the manual cutting plan editor offers tools for editing the
cutting plans.
The graphics editor offers the following features:

Illustr. A-17 Graphic editor

Processing
The functions available in the manual cutting plan editor are controlled by a
context menu. This context menu opens if you click the right mouse key on the
manual cutting plan editor window. The available functions depend on the area
you have clicked on. Unavailable functions are inverted.

Output Functional Principle

Output
The output menu controls all output options of Sequence Optimizer. This in-
cludes the printing of labels, cutting plans and results as well as the creation
of the necessary codes for cutting tables and benders. Sophisticated reports
allow to edit all the lists required (see: Reports).
 Software Reference, “Output” on page A-205
The different output options are marked by tabs. Ticking or unticking the
checkbox on the required tab will enable or disable the corresponding output
option.
On the tabs, radio buttons and/or checkboxes can be used to activate editing
options. Combo boxes allow to select an entry from a list. This may be a report,
a certain breakout sequence, etc.
Output is always based on the last, successful optimization. This means that
you can load the output several times, and repeat different outputs (e. g. re-
print lost labels by enabling only the checkbox for label printing).

Check optimization result

Use the results display to check the current optimization result.

50 Sequence Optimizer Functional Principle

Functional Principle XOPT-Fit

XOPT-Fit
The aim of XOPT-Fit is to organise an A rack IG production with XOPT waste.
IG units consist of several lites which are produced at different times.
First, there is a free optimization of glass types via Sequence Optimizer. After
that, subplates and patterns are resorted and allocated to stacks to that the li-
tes can be unloaded together in front of the IG line.
The advantage of XOPT-Fit is the optimum yield with all the benefits of an A
rack organisation.
The result of XOPT-Fit and the production process can be displayed as fol-
lows.

XOPT cutting Stack of IG production

Rack sequence from top to bottom
Glass
1

Glass
2

Illustr. A-18 Schematic display XOPT-Fit

Result
Five stacks are formed after cutting; those have to be accessible in front of the
IG line. The stacks with the first glass type can be processed in succession.
For the other glass type, all stacks have to be accessible, i.e. the man at the
IG line takes lites from different stacks.
The sequence of units for IG production is random.

Procedure
Select the required optimizations (for individual lites or units (production file))
2.10 / 03-2014

from Sequence Optimizer, optimize them together, and stack them with the
help of XOPT:-Fit, allocate racks numbers (= numbers of the glass stacks) in
a suitable sequence.

Sequence Optimizer Functional Principle 51

XOPT-Fit Functional Principle

Lites that belong together, are recognised by their order and item numbers.
The user has to make sure that all optimizations for an order are run together,
which is why input via production file is recommended. Items without order
numbers (field is blank) are treated like individual lites.

Compiling an optimization

Illustr. A-19 Compile optimization

Productionfiles (and optimization files) are compiled as usual. Only one opti-
mization group can be used, however. If you allocate several optimization
groups, you will not be able to optimize them via XOPT-Fit (button becomes
inactive).
With the appropriate configuration you can load the ORGA to allocate rack
numbers. XOPT-Fit will consider them if required; order items with identical
rack numbers will come in succession during IG production.

Functional Principle Definition of Terms

Definition of Terms
Below you will find the definition of the terms in connection with the cutting of
stockplates.

Stockplate at cutting

2 4

Illustr. A-20 Stockplate at cutting

Number Name Explanation

1 X cut An X cut (usually the subplate cut) runs

parallel with the left or the right edge of
the plate, or vertical to the bottom edge
of the plate. This cut splits the stockplate
into individual parts or subplates.

2 Y cut The Y cut runs parallel with the top or

bottom edge of the plate. This cut
divides a subplate in upper and lower
sections.

3 Z cut The Z cut runs parallel with the left or

right edge of the plate, and/or with an X
cut. It divides the sections created by the
Y cuts.

4 W cut The W cut runs parallel with a Y cut and

lies between an X cut (left or right edge
of the plate) and a Z cut.

Tab. A-1 Description of terms

Sequence Optimizer Functional Principle 53

Definition of Terms Functional Principle

Number Name Explanation

X subplates Is created by X cuts. The stockplate is

divided crosswise into sections (see
illustration above).

Y subplates Continuous cuts run from left to right (not

from bottom to top as with X subplates).
The X cut becomes the trim on the
ensuing cutting pattern. Basically, the
stockplate becomes a single, large X
subplate. Y cuts therefore run from the
right to the left edge of the plate.

This tab is mainly used by companies who cut self-cleaning glass. In this case,
the stockplates have a film layer to protect the coating during cutting. Several
films are necessary to protect the stockplates. The film overlaps where the in-
dividual layers meet. The cut-free areas exactly define the overlaps and thus
protect the cutting in these areas. Measuring always starts from the bottom
edge of the stockplate.

This dialog is used to define parameter records for the cutting tables which can
be easily selected from a drop-down field at optimization. The parameters de-
fine table restrictions, breakage parameters, etc. Various parameter records
can be defined for a table. This guarantees high flexibility for optimization. In
addition to selecting a parameter record for an optimization, variant optimiza-
tion allows to use several, freely selectable parameter records at once. After-
wards, select the best result for further processing.

Description Descriptive text on the parameter record.

Use this field to enter additional information on the parameter record.
Technical info: Input is optional, alpha-numerical

Optimization Mode Select the required mode from the combo box. Possible
entries: common / pairs.
Common: At optimization, lites of an item (e.g. IG unit) do not have to be put
next to or on top of each other on the same subplate.
This optimization type usually brings the best result as there are only minimal
restrictions for optimization.
Pairs: A pair optimization is started in which the lite pairs (or lite triples) have
to be positionend next to another or on top of each other on a subplate.
Exception: The lite is so big that the pair does not fit onto the subplate either
way.
In this case, the lites will be put onto two subplate at the same height.

Automatic Loader Does the cutting table have an automatic loader? If a pa-
rameter record with automatic loader is selected for an article, each stockplate
has to get a loader code.
 Software Reference, “Loading Code” on page A-116
 The cutting table has an automatic loader.
 The cutting table has no automatic loader.
Technical info: Compulsory field

Cutting Mode Selection of the appropriate cutting mode depends on the cut-
ting table and the company's requirements.
Generally, cutting mode 1 will produce the best yield while cutting mode 4
shows the worst results.
Higher waste might be compensated by quicker breakout and stacking (due to
the simpler cutting mode).
The cutting mode determines the position of the lites on the subplate between
two adjacent Y cuts. Valid input: 1, 2, 3 and 4
1: Between two Y cuts, lites of different width and height can lie next to ano-
ther. Hence, W cuts may occur.
2: Between two Y cuts, only lites of different width and the same height can lie
next to another.
3: Between two Y cuts, only lites of the same item can lie next to another.
4: Between two Y cuts, only up to two lites of the same item can lie next to ano-
ther.

Subplate Breakout With this option, stockplates can be broken by subplate.

This means that the stocksize is cut up to the defined subplate width (see
below), and is broken. This process is repeated for the rest of the stockplate
until all subplates have been cut.
The subplate width from which on this function is applied, is individually defi-
ned at cutting code creation.
Note:
The cutting table has to offer this function.
 Stockplates are broken by subplate.
 Stockplates will not be broken by subplate.
Technical info: Compulsory field, selection

Z Cuts This entry Top/bottom determines the position of the Z cuts on the cut-
ting plan.
Normally, it is better to position the Z cuts near the top (top), i.e. away from the
working area so that individual subplates can be broken across the whole
width of the plate and stacked right away. If lites above this subplate include Z
cuts, there will be enough space on the breakout table to rotate the lite to break
the Z cut. Valid input: Top and Bottom.
Top: Z cuts are positioned at the top
Bottom: Z cuts are positioned at the bottom
 Functional Principle, “Definition of Terms” on page A-53

Start of Breakout This marks the start of breakout.

It depends on the spatial conditions on the shop floor and defines the se-
quence of the labels. Valid input: bottom left, bottom right, top left, and top
right.
Bottom left: Breakout starts at the bottom left.
Bottom right: Breakout starts at the bottom right.
Top left: Breakout starts at the top left.
Top right: Breakout starts at the top right.
Technical info: Compulsory field, selection

Reference Point Enter the reference point of the cutting table. The cutting
plan refers by default to the bottom left corner of the stockplate to be cut. The
reference point helps to adapt cutting table and cutting plan. Valid input: 1, 2,
3 and 4
1: Reference point bottom left.
2: Reference point bottom right.
3: Reference point top right.
4: Reference point top left.

Min. X-Z Defines the minimum distance between X- and Z cuts. This size al-
ready exists in article master data. If a size is defined in parameter master da-
ta, this is the one to be used. The size defined in article master data will be
used only if no size was entered for this parameter.
Technical info: Optional, numerical

Min. Z-Z Defines the minimum distance between Z cuts.

Technical info: Optional, numerical

Min. Y-Y with Z: Min. distance between Y-Cuts. If you are using a cutting ta-
ble with several Y cutting heads, the minimum distance is determined by the
distance between the cutting wheels of two cutting heads moved towards each
other (see manufacturer's technical data).
Technical info: Optional, numerical

Min. Y-Y without Z Defines the minimum distance between the Y cuts if there
is no Z cut between the Y cuts.
Technical info: Optional, numerical

Min. Subplate with Y This question takes into account the possible use of an
automatic breakout device, especially the technical conditions for static break-
out of X subplates.
The manufacturer's technical conditions are valid for cutting with an automatic
breakout device; otherwise, enter 0 in this field.
Technical info: Optional, numerical

Min. Subplate without Y If there is no Y cut on a subplate (does not happen

in reality because even for very large lites, at least one Y cut is made on the
edge of the stockplate), this size defines the minimum subplate width.
Technical info: Optional, numerical

Max. Subplate This entry restricts the width of the subplate. One the one
hand, this helps to make manual breakout easier and on the other hand, auto-
matic breakout devices can only handle a certain maximum width. The manu-
facturer's specifications apply for automatic breakout devices.
Technical info: Optional, numerical

Min. Residue Plate Width If the length of the residue plate for a pattern falls
below this size, the last X cut is transferred to the edge of the stockplate, and
the lites of the last subplate are limited by Z cuts. This may be an advantage
when it comes to breaking the pattern.
Technical info: Optional, numerical

Subplate Extension If an optimization includes a lite that cannot be sche-

duled due to the max. subplate width restriction (e.g. max subplate = 2000
mm, lite 2100 x 2100 mm), you can permit the optimization to extend the max.
subplate width automatically. Tick the checkbox and enter the value by which
the optimization can widen the subplate. In the above example, Sequence Op-
timizer would search for the biggest lite of the optimization (no matter if width
or height), add the value from master data field Subplate extension, and use
this as the max. valid subplate width. In the above example, 2100 mm would
be the biggest size; with an input of 500 mm in field Subplate extension, the
max. valid subplate width would be 2600 mm.

First, select the required file type.

Available file types are:
• Order Items
• Filler Sizes
• Resolved Items
• Production Files
• Broken Lites
• Quick Optimization

Order Items Files of the order item type contain items the lites of which will
all be included in the optimization (if the defined priority is kept). All lites have
the same glass product and - at first - the same priority. If this file type has been
chosen for the items, the priority in the input menu is preset with 1. This should
be changed in special circumstances.

Filler Sizes Files of the type filler sizes contain items with lites that will be
used to improve the yield or to fill the residue plate for optimization. Optimiza-
tion decides whether and how many lites will be optimized. After the lites have
been withdrawn by optimization, the items will be updated in the file. All lites
have the same glass product and the same defined priority. If this file type has
been chosen for the items, the priority in the input menu is preset with 2. This
should be changed only in special circumstances.

Sequence Optimizer Softwarere Reference 145

Master Data Software Reference

Resolved Items These files contain items with lites from resolved cutting
plans from previous optimizations.
This setting should only be changed in special cir-
cumstances.

Production Files Prooduction files can contain up to three difference glass

products per unit.
Usually, production files are transferred from a server (order entry, ALFAK,
AWPool etc.) to Sequence Optimizer. They contain order items for IG, lamina-
ted glass, etc. with maximally three lites per unit. Production files can contain
different glass products. If this file type has selected for the items, the priority
in the input menu is preset with 1. This should be changed only in special cir-
cumstances.
You can of course enter production files by hand!

Broken Lites You can define order items from a withdrawn optimization that
shall be reoptimized. The order item - with a random number of lites - will be
saved in a residue item file and can be reoptimized.
The name of the residue item file consists of the letters BRK and the optimiza-
tion number of the withdrawn optimization to which the selected order item be-
longs.
This allows to enter remakes without having to re-enter the whole order item.

Quick Optimization This file type allows the direct input of the items to be op-
timized. Filed File name is preset by QUICKOPT and field Description with
Quick optimization. After entering the corresponding items you can use the
[Optimize] button to access the optimization directly.

Description of fields in section order item

The fields in this section only display the data from section Inidividual item. You
can select the required item and change it in section Individual item.

Description of fields in section selected order item

Rack No. The program automatically assigns a rack number (start number =
1, the next rack number is raised by 1). This can be changed any time. The
number does not have to exceed 9999! Rack numbers are necessary for sta-
cking the lites.

Units Number of units to be produced. This field matches the field Lites. If e.g.
ten IG units shall be produced and one unit has two lites of the same article,
enter 10 in field Units and 2 in field Lites. This allows the quick input of IG units
or laminated units for which the article for the individual lites is the same. When
entering individual lites, enter the required quantity and enter 1 in field lites!
 Software Reference, “Lite” on page A-151

Surplus You can enter the number of units to be produced additionally in or-
der to make up for possible breakage without the need for reoptimization. Ex-
ample: 10 lites of a very thin glass have been ordered. Enter the required
quantity, 10, in field Units and in this field here the additional number of lites,
3. A total of 13 lites will be optimized. This means that up to three lites may
break after cutting without the need for reoptimization.

Lite Number of lites per unit. This field is the same as field Units. If e.g. ten IG
units shall be produced and one unit has two lites of the same article, enter 10
in field Units and 2 in field Lites. This allows the quick input of IG units or lami-

Technical info: Compulsory field, selection: Yes/no

Optimization Mode Select the required mode from the combo box. Options:
Common: At optimization, lites of an item (e.g. IG unit) do not have to be po-
sitioned next to another or on top of each other on the same subplate. This op-
timization type usually brings the best result as there are only minimal
restrictions for optimization.
Pairs: A pair optimization is started in which the lite pairs (or lite triples) have
to be positionend next to another or on top of each other on a subplate. Ex-
ception: The lite is so big that the pair does not fit onto the subplate either way.
In this case, the lites will be put onto two subplate at the same height.
Functional Principle, “Definition of Terms” on page A-53
Technical info: Compulsory field, selection

Cutting Mode Selection of the appropriate cutting mode depends on the cut-
ting table and the company's requirements.
Generally, cutting mode 1 will produce the best yield while cutting mode 4
shows the worst results.
Higher waste might be compensated by quicker breakout and stacking (due to
the simpler cutting mode).
The cutting mode determines the position of the lites on the subplate between
two adjacent Y cuts.
 Functional Principle, “Definition of Terms” on page A-53
Options:
1-XYZW: Between two Y cuts, lites of different width and height can lie next to
another. Hence, W cuts may occur.
2-XYZ*: Between two Y cuts, only lites of different width and the same height
can lie next to another.
3-XYZZZ: Between two Y cuts, only lites of the same item can lie next to ano-
ther.
4-XYZZ: Between two Y cuts, only up to two lites of the same item can lie next
to another.
Functional Principle, “Definition of Terms” on page A-53

Z Cuts This entry determines the position of the Z cuts on the cutting plan.
Normally, it is better to position the Z cuts near the top (top), i.e. away from the

width of the plate and stacked right away. If lites above this subplate include Z

cuts, there will be enough space on the breakout table to rotate the lite to break
the Z cut.

It depends on the spatial conditions on the shop floor and defines the se-
quence of the labels.

Reference Point Enter the reference point of the cutting table. The cutting
plan refers by default to the bottom left corner of the stockplate to be cut. The
reference point helps to adapt cutting table and cutting plan. Options:
1: Reference point bottom left.
2: Reference point bottom right.
3: Reference point top left.
4: Reference point top right.
Technical info: Compulsory field, selection

Cost per Z cut For laminated glass cutting for instance, it may be important
that optimization works with a minimum number of Z cuts. .The more expensi-
ve a Z cut, the less Z cuts optimization will use; this will affect the optimization
result however.

Min. X-Z Defines the minimum distance between X- and Z cuts. This size al-
ready exists in article master data. If a size is defined in parameter master da-
ta, this is the one to be used. The size defined in article master data will be
used only if no size was entered for this parameter.
Technical info: Compulsory field, numerical

Min. Z-Z Defines the minimum distance between Z cuts.

Min. Y-Y with Z: Min. distance between Y-Cuts. If you are using a cutting ta-
ble with several Y cutting heads, the minimum distance is determined by the
distance between the cutting wheels of two cutting heads moved towards each
other (see manufacturer's technical data).
Technical info: Input depends on the cutting table, numerical

Min. Y-Y without Z Minimum distance between Y-Y cuts if no Z cut is made
in between. Defines the minimum distance between the Y cuts if there is no Z
cut between the Y cuts.
Technical info: Input depends on the cutting table, numerical

Min. Subplate with Y This question takes into account the possible use of an
automatic breakout device, especially the technical conditions for static break-
out of X subplates.
The manufacturer's technical conditions are valid for cutting with an automatic
breakout device; otherwise, enter 0 in this field.
Technical info: Input depends on the cutting table, numerical

Min. Subplate without Y Minimum subplate width if no Y cut is included. If

there is no Y cut on a subplate (does not happen in reality because even for
very large lites, at least one Y cut is made on the edge of the stockplate), this
size defines the minimum subplate width.
Technical info: Input depends on the cutting table, numerical

Max. Subplate This entry restricts the width of the subplate.

One the one hand, this helps to make manual breakout easier and on the other
hand, automatic breakout devices can only handle a certain maximum width.
The manufacturer's specifications apply for automatic breakout devices.
Technical info: Input depends on the cutting table, numerical

Subplate Extension If an optimization includes a lite that cannot be sche-

duled due to the max. subplate width restriction (e.g. max subplate = 2000
mm, lite 2100 x 2100 mm), you can permit the optimization to extend the max.
subplate width automatically. Tick the checkbox and enter the value by which
the optimization can widen the subplate. In the above example, XOPT would
search for the biggest lite of the optimization (no matter if width or height), add
the value from master data field Subplate extension, and use this as the max.
valid subplate width. In the above example, 2100 mm would be the biggest si-
ze; with an input of 500 mm in field Subplate extension, the max. valid subplate
width would be 2600 mm.
Technical info: Input optional, numerical

Min. Residue Plate Width Minimum residue plate length. If the length of the
residue plate for a pattern falls below this size, the last X cut is transferred to
the edge of the stockplate, and the lites of the last subplate are limited by Z
cuts. This may be an advantage when it comes to breaking the pattern.
Technical info: Input optional, numerical

This dialog serves to set the size categories for stack formation. When a stack
is formed, size categories can be allocated to lites that belong to the same

from 100 to 1000 mm, from 1000 to 2000 mm, and bigger than 2000 mm.
XOPT-Fit starts a new stack if lites of two size categories would be put onto
the same stack otherwise. 5 inputs for sizes categories (for 6 categories) are
sufficient.
When evaluating the size categories, the system considers the shorter edges
of the lites (or for shapes, the size of the bottom edge or the long or the short
side of the surrounding rectangle).

Cutting Pattern Displays the stockplate including subplates, lites, lite infor-
mation, and waste/residue plate. The cutting pattern can be edited using func-
tions from the context menu; the lite information can be shown or hidden by
means of the display control.

Context menu
Open the context-sensitive Menu Box with a right-click in the Graphics Editor.
The available functions refer to the section (lite, pattern, or unused part of the
pattern) the cursor is pointing at. The available Functions depend on the se-
lected area.

Processing
The functions available in the manual cutting plan editor are controlled by a
context menu. This context menu opens if you click the right mouse key on the
manual cutting plan editor window. The available functions depend on the area
you have clicked on. Unavailable functions are inverted.
The context menu offers the following options:
• Add
• Delete
• Rotate
• Cut out
• Copy
• Insert
• Resolve

Description of menu entries

Add This menu item allows to add a new lite to an existing pattern. Open the
context menu by clicking the right mouse key on a free section of the pattern
(e.g. the residue plate). Select Add from the context menu. Dialog Add ap-
pears.

Cut out This menu item is used to cut a lite from the cutting plan. Open the
context menu by a right mouse click on the lite to be cut. From the context me-
nu, select Cut. The selected lite is removed from the pattern, transferred to a
temporary memory, and can now be added to an unused section of any pat-
tern. The cut-out lite can be inserted any number of times as long as there is
enough space on the cutting plan! All information on the patern will be amen-
ded.

Copy This menu item allows to copy a lite from a cutting plan. Open the con-
text menu by a right mouse click on the lite to be copied. Select Copy from the
context menu. The selected lite is copied from the pattern, transferred to a
temporary memory, and can now be added to an unused section of any pat-
tern. The copied lite can be inserted any number of times as long as there is
enough space on the cutting plan!

Insert This menu item serves to transfer a lite from the temporary memory to
a cutting plan. The copied lite can be inserted any number of times as long as
there is enough space on the cutting plan! First select the cutting plan to which
the lite shall be added. Use the control bar for quick selection. Opent the con-
text menu by a right mouse-click on an unused section of the selection cutting
plan. Select Insert from the context menu. The lite from the temporary memor-
by will be added to the unused section of the selected cutting plan. All infor-
mation on the pattern will be amended.

Insert lite
The lite to be inserted has to be transferred before to a temporary memory
by means of Cut or Copy.
If menu Insert is inverted when you open the context menu, insertion is im-
possible. This may be due to the fact that no lite had been transferred to
the temporary memory, or the unused section of the selected cutting plan
is too small to fit in the lite. Lites can only be inserted within the same opti-
mization group!

Resolve This menu item is used to remove a lite from the cutting plan. Those
lites can be considered for later optimizations by means of a residue item file.
Open the context menu by a right mouse-click on the lite to be removed. Select
Resolve from the context menu. The lite will be removed from the cutting plan.
All information on the patern will be amended.

Removed lites
Those lites can be considered for later optimizations by means of a residue
item file.
