Activity 3: ESSAY

Instructions: Answer the following questions briefly

1. Explain why more than two political parties exist in the Philippines.
A political party is a group of voters organized to support certain public
policies. The aim of a political party is to elect officials who will try to carry out
the party's policies. A political party offers candidates for public office. It sets out
positions on issues that may range from war and taxes to how children should be
educated. When people in a democracy disagree about what the government
should do, voters express their opinions by voting for the candidates that most
closely reflect their views. Political parties provide a way for voters to easily
identify a candidate's positions. Political parties may be large or small, national or
local. Large political parties generally have millions of members and supporters.
In democratic election campaigns, parties compete freely for votes. Such
competition is one of the hallmarks of democracy. Political parties are inevitable
in the political set up not only in the Phillippines but on all countries that covers
up democracy.

2. Compare a democratic form of government with that of a communistic form.

Democracy is a form of government in which the power comes from the
majority or from the citizen of the said country. In democracy government give
emphasis on the rights of the occupants and eagerly consider everyone's status for
any change or if there will be constitution that will be advocated. In this form of
government everyone has the voice to participate and make an intervention when
it comes to the political matters. Everyone has the Chance to express their feelings
and reaction towards everybody. Being involved in Democratic country makes
you do anything that could elevate your utmost development and growth that
pertains to your capability as a human being while in communist government
everyone is limited to their actions, there is no emphasis on freedom of everyone
when it comes in ex pressing feelings and reaction. Everyone is proportionally
considered as same citizen of one country having same number of salary and
amount of benefits that is given by the government.

3. What advantages are there in having only one political party as in a totalitarian
form of government?
The advantage on having only one political party in a totalitarian form of
government, because having one political party is an advantage for a person who
is running for a position because in one political party and the whole support of
the country they will get. And there's a big chances to win a position because you
are in only one political party and because the totalitarianism is like dictatorship
so the power is on the ruler.

4. Why do you think did the Genuine Opposition candidates win majority of the
senatorial slots last May 2007 elections?
