Personal Value System
• It refers to the integration of values
which an individual
holds as guiding
principles that propel
decisions and actions.
Systems Theory
• Aristotle claimed that understanding relied on the
knowledge of whole instead of parts of the whole
(Aristotle’s Holism)
• This claim has been the source of the systems theory.
• In systems theory, it is believed that the interrelationship
among the parts of a thing, a group, a society etc. is more
important than the behaviour of each of the parts.
• This theory has implications for many human issues
including value system.

Systems Theory& Value System
• Value system consists of values that interrelate.
• Positive values such as integrity, honesty,
responsibility, excellence, courage etc. have a way they
work together to make a positive value system.
• Negative values such as hatred, jealousy, anger,
laziness, covetousness etc. will do the same to produce
negative value system.
Biblical Framework for Value System
• Scripturally, values are seen as a system.

• Note the phrase ‘The fruit of the spirit is’

Conclusion
• Though values are in parts, they produce
when they operate as a system in a person.
• You cannot say you have integrity, but you
are found to be irresponsible.
