I. Intended Learning Outcomes
Through varied learning activities, the Grade 8 students will able to do the following with at
least 85% accuracy:
1. Determine if the given relation is a function using domain and range.
2. Illustrate the ordered pairs through tabular method and mapping diagrams
3. relate relations and functions to real-life situation
4. integrate Relations and Functions across Science, Araling Panlipunan, TLE,
ESP and ICT.

II. Learning Contents

A. Competencies: Determines and illustrates Relations and Functions
B. References: Math Learner's Module 8; Next Century Mathematics by Zenaida B. Diaz &
et al; 21st Century Math by Jonathan C. Glorial & et al; Spiral Math 8 by Jose Ma. L. Escaner
& et al; Math Ideas and Life Applications by Arlene A. Pascasio & et al.
C. Materials: Strips of Paper, chalkboard, cartolina, marker, lapel, books & activity notebooks

III. Learning Experiences

A. Preparation
After the daily routine, the teacher will review first the meaning of ordered pairs. Then,
she will group the students and will do the first activity in which they group the following
objects in such a way that they have common properties or characteristics.
Kitchen Utensils Laboratory Apparatus Computer Hardware

After the first activity, the teacher will present the formal lesson by letting first the
students answering the following questions:

1. How many objects can be found in each column?

2. How did you classify the object?
3. Try to look at the examples, what have you observed to the domains? Are
they any repeating domains?
4. How about the range?

B. Presentation
The students will make a set of ordered pairs out of the given activity, then they will
illustrate it through mapping diagram.
Illustrative Example:
{(mortal & pestle, Kitchen Utensils), (mortal & pestle, cooking)}
x y
Mortal & Pestle Kitchen Utensils

cooking

1. What have you observed to the domains?

2. Do you think this relation is a function? Why do you think so?
3. How did you make a set of ordered pairs?
4. Is there any reputation of the domain? How about the range?
5. Does the set of ordered pairs represent relation and function?
Why?

C. Practice
Students will find a partner and ask each other their birth month. Then, they will make
their own example of relation and that is a function Their name will be the domain and the month will
be their range through connecting arrows like the previous example.
IV. Assessment
Determine whether each relation is a function. Write F if it is a FUNCTION and NF if it is
NOT FUCNTION. Then, make a mapping diagram to represent the following set of ordered pairs.

1. {(Aguinaldo, March), (Quezon, August), (Osmeña, September)}

2. { (Humans, Mammals(, Human, Kingdom Animalia), (Turtles, Reptiles)}
3. {(Printer, Computer Hardware), ( CPU, Computer, Hardware), ( Microsoft, Software)}
4. {(5’7, 60 kg), (6’1, 60 kg), ( 4’9, 45 kg), (5’7, 45 kg)}}
5. {(Pandiwa, Verb), (Pang-uri, Adjective), (Pangngalan, Noun), ( Panghalip, Pronoun),
(Pang-abay, Adverb)}

V. Assignment
Interview your family, relatives, friends and neighbors who are already working. Ask
them their occupation, salary per month & number of hours of work per day. Make a set of
ordered pairs out of the information you gathered. Then, illustrate it through mapping
diagram. Make sure you affix their signature as a proof of evidence. Put this on a short bond
paper. (Minimum of 5 persons)

Illustrative Example:

Name:LORIE JANE L. ADATEL Occupation: Teacher 1

Salary/Month: Ᵽ 20, 179 No. of hrs./day: 8

Ordered Pair: (Ᵽ 20, 179, Teacher)

LORIE JANE L. ADATEL

Teacher 1

Salary per Month Occupation

Ᵽ 20, 179 Teacher
Utility Man
Ᵽ 10, 500
Construction Worker
Ᵽ15, 000 Vendor
Ᵽ 8, 500 Security Guard
Ᵽ10, 200

Questions:
1. What have you observed to the salary received by the persons with their nature of work?
2. Does the nature of work greatly affect to the monthly salary receive by the person? Why?
3. As a student, what are your step-by-step process or career path for you to receive a good
salary? Illustrate your answer through ladder diagram.
4. Is finishing your studies enough for you to have a good living and to make your life more
convenient and more comfortable? If no, what are the values you should have for you to
achieve your goals in life?
Objectives Means of Verification Annotations
1. Applied ● Classroom A week before the discussion of this lesson, I
Knowledge of observation asked my students what subject areas they found
content tool (COT) most challenging and what areas they were easier to
within and rating sheet comprehend. Majority of them said that Math and
across and / or inter- Science were the two subjects they found difficult
curriculum observer while TLE, Aral Pan and ESP were the areas they
teaching agreement found lighter. Thus, I incorporated my Math Lesson to
areas from about these subject areas.
knowledge of In my first activity, I incorporated TLE specifically,
content within the Table Setting and Computer Hardware, I knew
and across these two concepts were quite familiar with my
curriculum students as they always encounter these things in
teaching areas their daily life.
● Detailed To make the activity more challenging , I put up the
Lesson Plan Science Lesson specially the Laboratory Apparatus
developed for I knew, some of my students were heard these
highlighting things for the first time.
integration of To catch my students' interest and enthusiasm to
content learn, I related the concept of my topic to a
knowledge relationship or love life. I added some hugot lines for I
within and noticed that in every time I crack a joke , my class
across subject feels alive and less lethargic. Hence, the values
areas integration applied in my Math lesson.
In addition , I integrated my lesson to Araling
Panlipunan which involved a community and a family.
Through this, I made my lesson lighter and easier to
comprehend.
My students were also engaged with one another as
they asked their classmates' birthdays . I heard lately
that some students were fighting each other over
small things so, to make them closer and more
comfortable to one another, I put up this activity for
this purpose.
I ended my lesson by giving them assignment to ask
and to interview the community member about the
nature of their work , salary per month and number of
hours of work. I let them do this activity not only for
the integration of Math lesson, but also to make them
realize the importance of education in their life. I want
them to reflect that finishing their studies make them
more comfortable and more convenient in living.
