Quiz 04

This document is a quiz for a signals detection and estimation course. It contains instructions for taking the quiz, which includes writing responses on paper, providing identifying information, and uploading the completed quiz by a certain deadline. The quiz then contains two questions - the first asks to find the linear minimum mean squared error estimate of a parameter B based on an observed data model, and the second asks about the differences between classical and Bayesian estimation, requirements for compressive sensing, and an expression for the minimum mean squared error estimate of a channel coefficient.

Quiz 04 – EE509 Signal Detection and Estimation

Name:___________________ Roll No.: ___________________________

Date: 17-06-2020 Total Marks: 10
Instructions:

• Write your roll number and sign at the top of each page of your answer sheet.
• Write your answers using a pen on an A4 size paper. Typed answers will not be accepted.
• Your answers should not exceed two sides of an A4 size paper sheet. Extra sheets will not
be marked
• When you have completed the exam, make sure that you have written your name, roll
number and have signed both sides of answer sheet.
• Place the answer sheet on a flat surface and take a snap shot by holding the camera
directly above the answer sheet, convert snapshots into pdf using appropriate apps and
upload it to MS Teams (Assignments Tab) or SLATE drop box (in case of issues
with MS Teams) and email it to

Question 1: We observe the data 𝑦[𝑛], for 𝑛 = 0, 1, … , 𝑁 − 1, and

𝑥[𝑛] = 𝐵𝑟 𝑛 + 𝑤[𝑛]

Where 𝐵~𝑈[−5,5], with variance 𝜎𝐵 , and 𝑤~𝑁(0, 𝜎 2 ). Both B and w[n] are independent. Find LMMSE
estimate of B

Question 2: Answer the following questions:

a. What is the difference between classical and Bayesian estimation?

b. Briefly explain the main requirements for the unknown signal and the sensing matrix to
apply compressive sensing?

c. MMSE estimate of channel co-efficient h can be expressed as:

Briefly explain this result.
