My Name is Abdul Khalim, I have completed my undergraduate studies in Civil Engineering from
Swadaya Gunung Jati University, Indonesia in December 2018 with a GPA 3.35 of 4.00. I am so
attracted in civil engineering because of the idea helped shape modern life that we enjoy today and
balanced development in the future. Technology that was involved in the construction of civil
engineering is that I cannot deny, China is a country that has a major role in this progress. But this is
not the only reason I chose China as a place to continue my study, another reason is because China
has a research culture with various references that can help create growth and new findings for the
improvement of the modern lives.
The pressures of population growth and global warming are ever-increasing, and civil engineers can
help play a major role in designing more efficient structures as well as planning projects in developing
countries.
My experience while studying at undergraduate spur to always want to know about the development
of civil engineering science and technology creation therein. I managed to complete the last project
that analyzed the construction project management in the construction of prestigious projects in
Indonesia, namely the longest Elevated Toll in Indonesia "Jakarta -Cikampek II Elevated". I did some
research to get information about the productivity index that can be obtained labor and equipment. I'm
using Microsoft Project and Primavera in shaping the concept of scheduling and budgeting effectively
and efficiently and perform analysis using the PERT method. From these research I found that the
productivity index of labor was very complex due to condition, weather and the origin of labor. The
productivity index of labor that use for designing the project was different with the data that I obtained
during the research, the actual data during the research was had a larger productivity. Not only the
index of labor, but also the equipment that used in the project had a lager productivity index. I think
these data can be used for evaluated the project implementation to get more efficient budget and
shorter project duration.
Besides the investigation for the productivity index, I was so attracted to the methodology that used in
the project of Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road because this project using a unique method to build the
upper structure of flyover it was called Sosrobahu Method. This method used in this construction
because the project was built right at the middle of existing toll road it aims to keep the activity the
existing toll road. I was investigate the implementation of the method and did some evaluation. This
method works with successfully reducing the budget for construction without disturbing the activity of
the existing toll road at the below. From these research experiences I am so sure that will be more
findings in in civil engineering.
Furthemore I am very interested to create ease in the planning and implementation of construction
projects by using the information technology to facilitate the performance in civil engineering as well
as improving productivity in the construction project. As the use of information technology for the
application of evaluation results when the structural design and scheduling application.
I would like to apply for the graduate program of structural engineering in China because of my current
job experience, past internship and my final project I came to know the vast practical applications of
the structural engineering, this caught my attention and crested a thirst of knowledge in me to study
my chosen course. I hope that I can gain more experience in dealing with situations, people, systems,
and demands which will be of great help in my future career
Therefore, by the advice of my teachers, parents and co-workers, I was hoping to get a chance to
continue my higher study with a master's degree program of civil engineering in china, considering the
prospect of studying in china excites me, as it would mean learning and more importantly, living in a
multi-cultural atmosphere. I also believe after completing my studies in china I will get a lot of new
knowledge and innovations for my next construction project.
Best Regards,
Abdul Khalim
