Our postgraduate music qualifications provide you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to
take the next step in your career. With a focus on exploring the relationships between ideas,
theory and your creative practice, you will have the opportunity to conduct your studies in an 
interdisciplinary musical environment. 

As a performer/producer/composer, our postgraduate study options will build upon your


undergraduate studies or professional experience, guiding you into a structured exploration of
your own creative practice within an academic framework. You will learn from and be
supported by our world class lecturing staff, each of whom live and breathe music – all are
experienced industry professionals and thought leaders in their fields of music.

Our postgraduate program offers you flexibility in your studies, with a choice of 3 qualifications
available depending on your needs, and how long you choose to study. If you are looking
to develop your career, and/or continue to focus on developing skills in areas such as
performance, sound engineering, composition and music production, our postgraduate
program is the solution you are looking for.

POSTGRADUATE AWARDS
GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN MUSIC
The Graduate Certificate in Music is an entry level postgraduate award and
can be completed over 6 months full-time or 1 year part-time. It aims to
provide students with the skills and knowledge in music theory and practice in
both academic and industry contexts. The course is focused on performance,
recording and research in a range of professional and academic environments
(live and recorded performance across diverse platforms). Graduates of this
course extend their theoretical, practical, and academic skills to situate their
creative practice within their chosen field.

GRADUATE DIPLOMA OF MUSIC


The Graduate Diploma of Music can be completed over 1 year full-time or up to 2
years part-time. Students will develop advanced knowledge within a music field
in either performance, composition, academia or a new or existing discipline
or professional area. Students will develop critical analysis skills, learn to
provide solutions to complex music and industry problems and apply specialised
technical and creative skills in professional music practice.

GRADUATE DIPLOMA OF MUSIC


The Master of Music can be completed in 2 years full-time or up to 4 years
part-time. Students undertaking this award will learn high level personal
autonomy, will learn to apply technical and communication skills to design,
evaluate, implement, analyse and theorise about developments that contribute
to professional practice or scholarship in the field of music. Graduates will
demonstrate a high level of personal autonomy and accountability, through
the delivery of a substantial research-based project and musical capstone

• Graduate Certificate in Music: 20 Credit Points


- 1 semester (6 months full-time or 1 year part-time)
• Graduate Diploma of Music: 40 Credit Points

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
WHO CAN APPLY
I. Applicants who hold a minimum Bachelor level qualification (or equivalent)
from a recognised tertiary provider and can provide evidence of extensive
relevant work experience OR

II. Applicants who hold a recognised VET qualification and can provide evidence
of extensive relevant work experience OR

III. Mature age applicants (21+ yrs) not meeting the above criteria (i, ii, iii) but
who can provide evidence of extensive relevant work or life experience,
demonstrating their potential to undertake study at this level

DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS FOR ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS


I. Previous Study
Applicants to supply certified copies of Testamur and Academic Transcripts
of previous study (in English)

II. Relevant Work Experience


Applicants to supply any certificates, official work records or references that
would support the application to undertake graduate studies at AIM arising
from prior relevant industry experience
