Chemistry Unit 7 Test: - /32 Points Possible
Chemistry Unit 7 Test: - /32 Points Possible
Unit Outcome: Students will examine and define concepts of Thermochemistry and Kinetics to
investigate and explain interactions between molecules.
Learning Outcomes:
Chem 7.1: Identify how mass and chemical properties affect the specific heat of chemicals.
Chem 7.4: Use heating curves and phase diagrams to show the changes in phases of energy and
explain how this relates to their ability to absorb energy.
Chem 7.5: Determine the difference between endothermic and exothermic reactions based on the
change in bond enthalpy and calculate entropy changes for chemical reactions.
Chem 7.6: Define factors that cause reaction rates to change and indicate how increasing or
decreasing these factors will affect the rate of reaction.
Chem 7.7: Interpret graphs to determine if reactions are exothermic or endothermic and indicate
how the presence of a catalyst affects the graph.
EQUATION: Q=mc∆T
7.1 Q1 To what temperature will a 50.0-gram piece of glass raise if it absorbs 5275 joules of heat
and its specific heat capacity is 0.50 J/g°C? The initial temperature of the glass is
20.0°C. (4 points)
7.5 Directions: For each short answer calculation problem, use the Bond Energy Table to solve
for the answer. For each problem your answer must include, for one point each; calculation
work shown, correct answer, and correct unit. Additionally, for one point, identify if the
reaction is endothermic or exothermic using a complete sentence.
7.5 Q1 Using the reaction below, solve for the change in bond enthalpy. Is the reaction an
endothermic or exothermic reaction? (4 pts)
Part A: Answer the following Heating Curve questions, using the graph below.
7.4 Q1 Define phase change and identify two phase changes where energy is being released.

Extended Written Response
Directions: For the following question, answer in paragraph form, using correct capitalization,
punctuation, and complete sentences, for the full six points. Make sure to look at the scoring
rubric on the last page of the test.
7.6 Q1 A chemist is working on a lab experiment with a chemical reaction that proceeds slowly.
A solid tablet is dissolved into an aqueous solution to create a precipitate and a new
aqueous solution. She is only has a few hours to get the required data for the lab. In the
space below identify four actions she could take to cause the reaction to proceed faster
and why taking those actions would cause the reaction to proceed at a faster rate.
