DSS FAQ

1. I can not log in the device.


The front-device (such as DVR, speed dome, NVS) shall have a reusable account for the
platform application.
2. The platform IP 127.0.0.1 is not acceptable.
The platform shall be a valid IP address such as XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX. The IP 127.0.0.1 is loop
back address.
3. Why the database initialization failed when I install the DSS?
Please check there is MYSQL in the server or not. You need to uninstall the MYSQL and then
uninstall the DDS, then reboot the server and begin installation again.
4. I can not create database, initialize database and implement setup.
Please shut down the firewall and then begin DDS server installation.
5. Why I can not see the device I have added?
After you added the device, please go to the right management section and then grant the device
to the group, now the user in current group can see the device.
6. Why I can not see all the devices?
DSS account and rights are granted to the specified organization. Usually, one user can not see
the device, right and user in different organizations. It is part of the right management and
organization management.
7. I forgot super administrator user name and password.
Super administrator name is system and password is 12456. For security reason, please modify
the password after you first logged in.
8. Why I can access the device from the web, but the platform shows it is offline now.
The device connection amount has reached the threshold or current device is busy. Usually we
do not recommend user to access the device directly. It may add device pressure and device
connection amount.
9. Why most information of the manager-end can not be modified?
Device is an important resource. The modification is strictly forbidden unless it is absolutely
necessary. In DSS, if you want to modify IP, you need to remove current one and then add
another new one. It is to guarantee security and second, it is for data accuracy. So, please pay
attention to the device parameter, central activation plan and central storage plan.
10. What is WAN mapping address for? How to configure it?
System can be established in the LAN or special network, then you can use router DMS mapping
to the WAN for internet access. If there is no DMZ mapping, the WAN mapping address is null,
otherwise you can input the WAN address after the mapping.
11. How to configure system monitor address when implement DMZ mapping.
Please input current PC IP address in the monitor address column then input the WAN mapping
address. These two addresses have the same port.
12. System supports router port mapping or not?
Considering system complication and port management requirement, the DSS does not support
single port mapping. For WAN, please use DMZ mapping.
13. System supports NAT or not?
After server DMZ mapping, the whole system supports NAT, but does not support device to
connect to the client-end directly.
14. Which protocol is used for the video transmission?
System supports UDP and TCP from client-end to the platform and from platform to the media.
The client-end supports auto-adaptive, the system can auto selects the transmission layer
protocol.
15. After the manager configures the information, the operator needs to reboot or not?
No, the operator does not need to reboot. The modification becomes valid immediately.
16. What shall I do once the server exit abnormally?

The platform has daemons. It can generate a new one once one server exit abnormally. The
system can restore in a very short time and the client-end can restore too. The server can auto
generate one dump file for you to analysis and solve the bug.
17. What kind of device the DSS supports?
DSS supports local HDD, local RAIDS, NAS, IP-SAN (recommended). Theoretically speaking, it
also supports disk array.
18. How many IPSAN one server can support?
The system max supports the disk tag of the OS. You can set several platforms IPSAN in the
system if the bandwidth allowed.
19. Why the menu on manager client-end can not be open. My OS is Windows 2003
Server.
Your IE version may be too low. You need to install SP1 and SP2 for IE6. If you still cannot open
the menu, you need to modify your safety level.
20. Why I need to download the control when I open the manager client-end and the web
operator end?
System adopts configuration control and video control, so you need to download the controls.
Please modify IE safety level, allowing the system to prompt the unassigned ActiveX control and
run the unassigned control.
21. The device supports DDNS or not?
The device support Dahua DDNS. Add the DDNS to the manager end first ,add IP to the device
that uses DDNS, then enable DDNS function. (Please refer to the device user’s manual for
detailed information.)
22. The device of the DDNS supports remote configuration or not?
The device does not support. The configuration interface of the device management is invalid in
DDNS. Please use other tool to set the device.
23. What protocols supported when I use IPS?
It supports Samba and ISCSI protocol. ISCSI is recommended for its reliability and high
efficiency.
24 How to configure ISCSI device?
Please refer to the corresponding storage device user’s manual. You need to set the ISCSI
device to the local disk tag and then you can add it to the platform in the configuration program.
25. The client-end supports Vista or not?
We have not verified yet. We recommend Windows XP.

Slight difference may be found in the user interface.
