5.1.1 Auxiliary Distribution System

The document describes the auxiliary distribution system which will include medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) equipment to distribute power throughout the plant. It specifies that MV and LV switchgears will be sized based on transformer ratings and margins. Loads will be segregated between MV and LV levels according to their power ratings. MV switchgears will be single bus sections without bus couplers and fed from unit or station transformers, with tie lines between units and stations to ensure power availability during outages. Feeder ratings will be based on bus bar ratings. Loads will be assigned working and standby feeders to maintain availability during faults.

5.1.

1 Auxiliary Distribution System

1. This system will have MV unit and station switchgears, MV unit and station
auxiliary transformers, MV unit and station auxiliary switchgears, LV unit and
station service transformers, LV unit and station service switchgears, MV/LV
switchgears for some BOP areas like CHP, AHP etc.
2. All MV and LV switchgears shall be sized based on the rating of source
transformer or rating of secondary windings of source transformer (in case of
three winding transformer). Required margin shall be added if specified in
Design criteria Document/Detailed Project Report/Project Contract Document.
3. Segregate the load between MV and LV levels as per their kW rating range
as per power supply condition as mentioned in Design Criteria
Document/Detailed Project Report/Project Contract Document.
4. All MV unit and station switchgears shall be of single bus section without
any bus coupler type. It will be fed from respective UT/ST transformer
secondaries.
5. Each of the unit switchgear bus section will have a tie with station
switchgears. Each of the station switchgear bus section will have a tie with
station switchgear fed from other station transformer. Tie feeders shall be
provided such that power will be available to all switchgear under any
outage or fault condition.
6. Current rating of a tie feeder shall be decided based on bus bar rating of
unit switchgear for tie between unit switchgear and station switchgear and
based on bus bar rating of station switchgear for tie between station
switchgears of different unit.
7. Identify the various MV unit/station loads with number of working and
standby feeders required. In case of two MV voltage levels, segregate the
above loads for respective MV voltage based on their kW loading and
criteria as mentioned in Project Design Criteria Document/Detailed Project
Report/Project Contract Document. In absence of above, refer clause
5.1.1.4.8 for voltage levels selection and decide the kW rating to be fed
from which voltage level.
8. While assigning the loads, working and standby feeders for each load
shall be fed in such a way to ensure availability of load during any fault or
outage conditions.
