What Is The Maximum Wavenumber/ Minimum Wavelength For Lymen Series in Hydrogen Atom?

The document discusses the maximum wavenumber and minimum wavelength for the Lyman series in hydrogen atoms. It calculates that for transitions between the lowest energy level n=1 and highest n=∞, the minimum wavelength is 911.7 Angstroms. It also calculates that for transitions between n=1 and n=2, the longest wavelength is 1215.7 Angstroms.

What is the maximum wavenumber/

minimum wavelength for Lymen Series

in Hydrogen atom?

For Lyman series, n1=1

For shortest wavelength in Lyman series ,the energy difference in two
states showing transition should be maximum, i.e., n2=∞

1/λ=RH[1/12−1/(∞)2]

=>λ=1/(3×109678)
=>λ =9.11×10-6cm

=>λ =911.7A∘
For longest wavelength in Lyman series,the energy difference in two
states showing transition should be minimum, i.e., n2=2

1/λ=RH[1/12−1/(2)2]

=>1/λ =3/4RH
=>λ=4/3*1/RH
=>λ =4/(3×109677)
=>λ =1215.7×10-8cm

=>λ =1215.7A∘
