B. Lesson Proper
1.0 Presentation
Now, look at the different
figures. Can you name each
one? Yes, teacher.
1.1 Modeling
Now, this time we are
going to learn about
quadrilaterals. As we go on
with our lesson I want you
to listen and observe
carefully so that you can
understand what the lesson
is all about. Are you all
ready? Yes, teacher.
As we look at the word
quadrilaterals, the first four
letters are quad it means
four lateral means sides.
So we are talking about
two dimensional objects.
Shapes that has four sides.
And a quadrilaterals are
polygons with four sides
and four angles.
Now, here are the different
kinds quadrilaterals:
First is Parallelogram. It is
a quadrilateral whose
opposite sides are parallel
and equal.
Second is Rectangle. The
rectangle is a
parallelogram whose
opposite sides are parallel
and equal in length. It also
has four right angles.
Third is Square. The
square shares
characteristics with both
the rectangle and the
rhombus. It has four equal
sides and four right angles.
Fourth is Trapezoid. It is a
quadrilateral that has
exactly one pair of parallel
sides.
And the last one is the
Rhombus. As I mention a
couple minutes ago, a
square is also called a
rhombus that’s because a
rhombus is a parallelogram
with four equal sides. It has
no right angles.
Activity 1
Identify and write the name
of the following quadrilaterals:
1.
Square
2. Rhombus
3. Rectangle
4. Trapezoid
5. parallelogram
Activity 2
Draw and describe the
following quadrilaterals listed below:
- 4 right angles
3. Square - All sides are equal

Intoduction:
Hello… Good morning grade 4 pupils! I’m your teacher for today, My name is
teacher Vic, We’re going to do something great today! Are you ready to learn? For this
day, our lesson will be all about identifying and describing the different kinds of
quadrilaterals.
Now, here is our objective, identify and describe the different kinds of
quadrilaterals.
But before we will proceed to our lesson, let’s have first a short drill.
I have here a picture. All you have to do is to identify the triangles shown in the
picture?
Can you identify the triangles shown in the picture now?
Now, lets check if how many triangles found in the picture. Let’s count 1,2,3,
…………
So, there are 15 triangles found in the picture.
Ok kids, Let’s have a quick review of our past lesson about triangles. Answer it
with YES or NO.
Are you ready?
1. Does an isosceles triangle have 2 equal sides? And the answer is… Yes.
An isosceles triangle has 2 equal sides.
2. Does an acute triangle have an obtuse angle? The answer is…. No
because.. An acute triangle has 3 acute angles, each measuring less than 90 degrees.
3. Does an equilaterals triangle have equal sides? And the answer is… Yes.
An equilateral triangle has 3 equal sides.
4. Does a scalene triangle have no equal sides? The answer is… Yes. A
scalene triangle has no equal sides.
5. Does a right triangle have a right angle? What’s your answer? Yes. A
right triangle has a right angle which measures 90°.
Good job kids! Now you know the different kinds of triangles.
Now, I have a question.
Children, are you taking a bath everyday?
Why we need to take a bath everyday? Yes. We need to take a bath everyday
because it makes us clean and healthy.
After taking a bath, how do you dry your wet body?
What do you use to dry your body? Yes. Correct! We dried our wet body by using
a towel.
What is its shape? Yes. that’s right. The shape of a towel is Rectangle.
Modelling:
Now, look at the different figures. Can you name each one? Ok, the first is….
Yes, a square. Second, is a… very good! A rhombus. Third is………. a rectangle yes,
that’s right! Fourth is a…..trapezoid and the last one is……. parallelogram. Very good
kids! You got it all right!
What do you call all of these figures? Yes…. They are called
QUADRILATERALS.
Now, this time we are going to learn about quadrilaterals. As we go on with our
lesson I want you to listen and observe carefully you that you can understand what the
lesson is all about. Are you all ready?
As we look at the word quadrilaterals, the first four letters are quad it means four,
and lateral means sides.
So we are talking about two dimensional objects. Shapes that has four sides.
Now, here are the different kinds quadrilaterals:
First is Parallelogram. It is a quadrilateral whose opposite sides are parallel and

Second is Rectangle. The rectangle is a parallelogram whose opposite sides are
parallel and equal in length. It also has four right angles.
Third is Square. The square shares characteristics with both the rectangle and
the rhombus. It has four equal sides and four right angles.
Fourth is Trapezoid. It is a quadrilateral that has exactly one pair of parallel sides.
And the last one is the Rhombus. As I mention a couple minutes ago, a square is
also called a rhombus that’s because a rhombus is a parallelogram with four equal
sides. It has no right angles.
So, let’s go ahead and lets give it a try now.
- What polygon that is a quadrilateral has 4 right angles and all the sides
are equal?
That’s right! It’s a square.
- Allright what if it has 4 right angles but the sides are not all equal?
And that would be rectangle.
- Okey, so 2 sets of parallel sides and the sides are all equal but they are
not all right angles.
And that would be a parallelogram.
- And what about two sets of parallel sides and the sides are all equal but
they are not 90 degrees angles.
And that would be a rhombus.
- Okey, last one. Only 1 set of parallel sides and sides are not all equal.
Remember 1 set of parallel sides.
And that would be a trapezoid.
Guided Practice:
This time we will have an activity. Get ready with your ballpen and a piece of
paper. In this part of the video you can pause to answer the activity. I will give you 2
minutes to answer. Are you ready?
Okey, 2 minutes is up! Now, Let’s answer the Activity No. 1.
What’s your answer in number 1? That’s right! It’s a rectangle.
For number 2, what’s the answer? Yes, it’s a rhombus.
Number 3, is…. parallelogram.
For number 4, it’s a square.
And number 5, the answer is…..trapezoid.
Good job kids! All of you got the correct answer.
Now, for activity 2, Again you can pause the video for 2 minutes to answer.
Draw and describe the following quadrilaterals.
Ok, time is up.. Let’s answer.
1. Rhombus- is a parallelogram with 4 equal sides. It has no right angles.
2. Trapezoid- is a quadrilateral that has exactly one pair of parallel sides.
3. Square- A square shares characteristics with both the rectangle and the
rhombus. It has 4 equal sides and 4 right angles.
4. Parallelogram- is a quadrilateral whose opposite sides are parallel and equal.
5. Rectangle- is a parallelogram whose opposite side are parallel and equal in
length. It also has 4 right angles.
Very good kids! Now you can draw and describe the different kinds of quadrilaterals.
Now, let’s go to Activity no. 3, Again, for 2 minutes you may pause the video to answer
the activity.
Answer the following questions with Yes or No.
Okey, time is up.. Lets check !
1. Is a parallelogram a rectangle?
What’s you answer? And the answer is….. Yes. A rectangle is considered a
special case of a parallelogram because a parallelogram is a quadrilateral with 2
pairs of opposite, equal and parallel sides.
2. Is a trapezoid a parallelogram ?
And the answer is….. No. A trapezoid has one pair of parallel sides and a
parallelogram has two pairs of parallel sides.
3. Is a square a rectangle?
The answer is… Yes. So a square is a special kind of rectangle, it is one where
all the sides have the same length. Thus every square is a rectangle because it
is a quadrilateral with all four right angles. However not every rectangle is
a square, to be a square its sides must have the same length.
4. Is a rhombus a square?
The answer is….. No. In a square there are 4 right angles and a rhombus don’t
have 4 right angles.
5. Is a rectangle a parallelogram?
And the answer is…….. Yes. A rectangle is considered a special case of
a parallelogram because: A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with 2 pairs of
opposite, equal and parallel sides. A rectangle is a quadrilateral with 2 pairs of
opposite, equal and parallel sides.
Independent Practice:
This time , I will give you an activity to work on your own, and after that we will
check your answer. You can answer it on a sheet of paper.
Again, in this part of the video, you can pause it for 2 minutes to answer the
activity.
Are you ready?
