Case: Individual perception affect in decision

Questions:
1.Why Suresh Shrestha choose car dealer as a profession?
Occupational choice is affected by four factors: psychological, social, economic,
and cultural. An individual's job choice is molded by their family, morals, values,
intelligence, abilities, finances, and many other factors. In context of Suresh, his
family background played a big role in his choice of profession as his father worked
for a new-car dealer and frequently traded the family cars. His father’s influence
led Suresh to get interested in cars as well as the car dealing business. As time goes
by his intimate knowledge of cars build up his confidence and became his strength.
His knowledge and experience of cars is also one of the key factor of him being a
car dealer. Another key factor that led Suresh to choose car dealer profession is the
society’s perception and stigma towards the used-car dealers. He wanted to break
and change the stereotype of a used-car salesman. Other than that, the other
factors can also be his leadership capacity and extrovert character. As he enjoys
being his own boss, the leadership capacity within him lead to form his own car
dealing business and relish the diversity of his work. His extrovert and outspoken
character also shows up as he likes the opportunity to work with customers and is
more interested in having relationship with customers. So ,Suresh Shrestha choose
car dealer as a profession because of his family, interests, knowledge, experience,
characteristics.
2.Why sometime he feels frustration with car dealing business?
Frustration may arise from challenges in fulfilling personal goals, desires,
instinctual drives and needs, or dealing with perceived deficiencies, such as a lack
of confidence or fear of social situations. It seems that the main goal of Suresh
forming his business was to change people’s perspective towards used-car
dealership, so to do that Suresh worked hard to gain and build customers trust. He
did not thought much about other competitors because having a good relationship
with customer was much more important than anything for him. He did everything
from buying the vehicles, to fixing them up to sell, to helping buyers arrange
financing. He liked being sole responsible for his work and wanted to show his
dedication to customers but he felt frustrated when customers saw him as just
another shady salesman and questioned his integrity. He was hurt when he realized
that he failed fulfilling his goal.
3.What are the reasons that he feels proud to be a car dealer?
Suresh has shown his entrepreneurial skills by establishing his own car dealership.
He has also shown his managerial skills by managing all his work by himself. He
enjoys being his own boss and also relishes the diversity of his work. It seems that
he is very dedicated towards his work so due to his hardwork and dedication he
takes pride in his work and embrace his role as a sole owner. From perspective of
Suresh he feels proud to be a car dealer because of his love for cars. His love for
cars has led him to gain intimate knowledge which has made easier for him to sell
cars. He priorities his relationship with customer very much that is why he tries to
involve himself in almost all work like fixing and maintaining cars, buying cars,
helping customers with their financing. He works hard to gain customers trust. It
seems that he have full faith in his knowledge and dedication that is why he feels
proud to be car dealer.

4. In above case how you can say that perception impact on individual decision?
Perception is the process of gathering, organizing and interpreting of sensory
information in order to represent and understand the presented information or the
environment. Decision Making is the process of identifying and choosing
alternatives based on the values, performance and beliefs of the decision maker.
An individual is required to go through all the alternatives and make a rational
decision but people cannot process all the information and scrutinize every single
problem so as a result, they make a habit deciding on the basis of perception so we
can argue that there is a link between perception and decision making. In above
case it can be seen that the way other people perceive and Suresh perceive about
Used-car Dealership is different. For other people his business was just another
dealership business but for Suresh it was something he believed in and was his way
of showing his dedication. Suresh had selective perception towards his business.
His whole positive perception towards the used-car dealership led the him to open
his own dealership business. People treat used-car dealership as a shady business
because dealers have earned a reputation of taking advantage of customers by
selling less-than-reliable vehicles, turning their backs on customers when they have
mechanical problems, and repossessing their vehicles if they miss a payment. So
society’s perception towards used- car dealership was one of the key factor to
Suresh’s decision as he wanted to break the stereotype towards the used- car
dealership business.
