Mom Lab

This document describes a laboratory experiment conducted by civil engineering students to calculate the extension and modulus of elasticity of different wires under tensile loads. The experiment involved applying increasing loads to brass, steel, and thinner steel wires and measuring the corresponding extension. The students recorded the load, extension, and calculated the slope and modulus of elasticity for each wire. They discussed potential sources of error, noting that human measurement error and wires not being fully stretched could have impacted the accuracy of their calculations.

1.Introduction
The materials that used in construction has many properties,
one of these properties is tensile force resistance, and in this
experiment we are going to test the resistance of the wires,
.and calculate the amount of extension due to tensile load

Objective.2
This experiment aims to calculate the amount of the
.extension and the modulus of elasticity of different wires

3.Definition
Wire: an element made of metals , used in structures to
.resist tensile force
The modulus of elasticity of a material :is a measure of its
stiffness. It is equal to the stress applied to it divided by the
resulting elastic strain

4.Apparatus
Different wires made of different materials with different
.diameters, hangers and weights that form the loads
4.Procedure
Doing this experiment was very simple, we put the weights
on the hangers , and red the scale and the amount of
.extension, then we did the calculation

6. Discussion
The first step in this experiment is to make sure that the
wires is tight ,so that no huge errors occur in the
calculation ,then the hangers are being put , after that the
loads are being applied and watch the scale and take the
readings, and so go on, and after making the calculation, we
.can easy notice the errors occurred in the calculation

Source of errors.7
The firs error is the human measurement and approximation,
the second error that affected our calculations is that the
.wires was not stretched well

Explanation of errors.8
The wires wasn’t has the length which has been recorded in
the calculation because the wires was not stretched, because
the overuse of these wires, which affected significantly in our
.calculations
