Module 2 Designing a document

(Pages 31-39) Task 1: Tabs and columns
 Think about tabs and columns. Brainstorm some questions
in order to understand the difference between a simple text
and a text in columns. Some of these questions are:
o Have you ever read a text in columns?
o Where have you seen a columned text? (The
answers may be in a magazine, newspaper, web,
student book).
o Is it easier to read text in columns rather than in
the full width of the page?
 Students will realize that the columns help us to give a text
a more interesting and professional look, in comparison
with a text that uses the full width of the page. That’s
because, columns widths are shorter so the lines of text
are shorter, too.
 Then, read about tabs and breaks. Brainstorm:
o Have you ever pressed the Tab key?
o What is its operation?
o Is pressing multiple Spaces the same as pressing
Tab?
o How do Tabs help us?
o How can you start a new page if it doesn’t change
automatically?
o Have you ever used a Break?
APSACS Curriculum Planning & Development Department Page 9 of 10

Class: 7 Week 5
 Students will understand when to use Tabs. It is very
important for a document to have a good format. If we
insert Tabs and Breaks we can edit or add text to an
existing and formed document.

Practice skills given in the task using Microsoft Word.

Perform Hands on activity given on page 39. Type the given text
and format it in the same way as shown in the textbook. You
can use different formatting options of tabs and columns. You
can take help from your textbook.
