LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 6

(Thematic Teaching)

I. Learning Objectives:
 Identify prepositions and prepositional phrases used in sentences correctly.
 Compose clear and coherent sentences using prepositions and prepositional
phrases.
 Perform a task given creatively with the use of prepositions and prepositional
phrases.
 Show tactfulness in communicating with others.

III. Procedure:
A. Preparatory Activities:
 Singing an action song from a Video Clip
(Let them identify the prepositions used in the song.)
 Motivation:
1. Show a picture of a farm.

Ask:
a. What is this place, children?
b. What do you see in a farm?
c. What do you do on the farm?
d. What can we get from the farm?
 Unlocking of difficulties:
Pick a word from the “Mystery Box” and read the word. Then use this word
to complete the sentence written on strips of paper.

B. Developmental Activities:
 Presentation:
Teacher will read a story while children listen.
Then volunteers are called to read the story aloud.
I stay at my uncle’s farm every summer. I wake up very early every morning
to gather duck eggs. Before the sun goes up, my cousin Celso and I drive the goats
to the grassy hill to graze. There is plenty of grass to eat so the goats are full within
an hour. By this time Uncle Pastor is busy among his vegetables plants. Celso and I
help him pull the weeds or cultivate the soil until lunch time which is around twelve
noon. After lunch, I lean against the trunk of a huge acacia tree and take a nap for
about half an hour.

 Discussion And Analysis


1. Have the pupils answer these questions. Have them write each answer on the
board and underline the preposition.
a. Where is the story taking place? (in the farm)
b. When do the boys drive the goats to the grassy hill? (before the sun goes up)
c. In how many hours does the goat get full? (within an hour)
d. Where does Uncle Pastor work most of the time? (among the vegetables
plants)
e. When is lunch time? (around twelve noon)
f. What do the boys do when the sun gets hot? (lean against the tree)
g. What may be a good thing to do after lunch? (take a nap for about an hour)
h. If you were Celso, will you also enjoy working on the farm? Why?
i. Will you also help your uncle? How?

b. Give each group 5 minutes to review and use these prepositional phrases in
sentences correctly. The first one to use these words in sentences wins.

1. Application
Directions: Read the paragraph carefully. Choose the correct prepositional
phrase that fits its sentence.
Heide went (in the bookstore, inside the bookstore). She noticed boys and girls
(about a big box, around the big box) of books. They were looking through (the pages, from
the pages) of some books there. Heide saw that the books were (about prehistoric animals,
around prehistoric animals). She took one book and browsed (from page to page, in the
pages). She found out that they were very different (than the books, from the books) she
already had.

2. Enrichment
Divide the class into learning teams. Each learning team will be given a learning task
which they will present to the class using preposition and prepositional phrases in a
creative way based on the common theme given to them.

Theme: Our Farm


Task 1. Compose a 4-line stanza poem about a farm using prepositional phrases.
Task 2. Make a problem involving addition of whole numbers using prepositional
phrases in a farm situation.
Task 3. Compose a song/rhyme using prepositional phrases about the farm.
Task 4. Create a game with the use of prepositional phrases about things done on
the farm.

IV. Evaluation:

Directions: Read the sentences and use the correct prepositional phrase.

1. Cutting down the trees (in the forest, to the forest) is prohibited.
2. Cross the street (at the pedestrian lanes, to the pedestrian lanes).
3. That lady waiting (to the shed, under the shed) is my mother.
4. Pupils are not allowed to stay (too late, at late) in the school.

V. Assignment:

Make a paragraph using the following prepositional phrases.
