METHOD STATEMENT FOR DENSE BITUMINOUS
MACADAM BINDER WORKS

1 GENERAL

The works generally consist of laying, spreading and compacting of dense bituminous
macadam material on prepared road base (WMM) which primed previously with prime coat
and in accordance to the requirement and specification given (Clause 507).

2 MATERIALS

Approved source of crushed stone, aggregates or combination of these depending on grading


(see figure 1) and passing of these materials in accordance to the specification (507.2.5) and
the binder content of 4.5% by the weight of total mix (Clause 507.3).

3 MACHINERY & EQUIPMENT

The equipment to be used for laying and spreading of sub base shall be by using mechanical
pavers, vibration tandem roller, pneumatic tyre roller and water truck as and when necessary.
4 METHOD FOR LAYING

4.1 SPREADING

Immediately upon receiving of the mixed DBM material, the mix shall be spread
uniformly on the prepared road base (WMM) according to the thickness specified
by using self propelled mechanical paver with suitable screeds capable of
spreading, tamping and finishing the mix to specified grades, lines and cross
section as shown in drawings.

4.2 COMPACTION

Thereafter, rolling shall be carried out by using with a set of rollers consist of
vibration tandem roller and pneumatic tyre roller. minimum of 100Kn static weight
and rolling will be carried out starting from lower edge towards upper edge
longitudinally.
