Lesson 4 Slides

This document outlines a lesson on using computer tools like spreadsheets to analyze data and support decision making. It presents a case study where a company needs to choose a new management software. Students will use functions in Excel like SUMPRODUCT, conditional formatting, subtotals, and COUNTIF to process the available data on different software options. They will then identify the best solution by giving appropriate weights to evaluation criteria and analyzing the information that emerges from the processed data. The document lists the objectives, case study details, development steps, tools to be learned, and reference materials provided for the lesson.

Objectives of the lesson

Understand the logics and the use of mathematical and
statistical functions and other spreadsheet tools to
analyze and process data, to support decision-making
processes
3

Our case
Choosing a new software for our company:

• Due to fiscal reforms, our management decides to invest in

the replacement of the company management software
• Processing the available data we will get some useful

the decision)
2. Make the data comparable (i.e. make sure that we are using a consistent unit)
3. Give an appropriate weight to the different evaluation criteria (i.e. assign the
right importance to each evaluation criteria, based upon the relevance they
may have for our company)
4. Process the available data, analyze them and, based on the information
emerged, identify the best solution among those available
