Designed for connecting the drive station to the boot station and

for discharging the vertical loads on it, preventing the contact with
the internal moving parts (buckets + chains).
Composed of double casing sections of modular height (1), joined
together with flanges fitted on the ends, equipped with one or
more special casing sections (2) with two doors for inspection and
maintenance of the internal parts. Foreseen a bracing bracket (3)
every two pairs of casing sections. 2
The intermediate body of smaller bucket elevators is composed by
single casing sections.

DRIVE STATION
Same function and structure as outlined on Img. D, except that the
shaft is equipped with toothed wheels (see Img. BZ).
The adjacent picture shows a typical drive assembly mounted on
high-speed bucket elevators (v > 1.00 m/sec).
It comprises an electric motor, a hydraulic coupling and a bevel Img. J
gearbox equipped with an auxiliary gear motor for low-speed
movement during maintenance phases. The main gearbox is
designed with hollow shaft, for a self-aligning combination with the
elevator shaft and for minimizing the transversal dimensions.
Img. K
INTERMEDIATE BODY
Same function and structure as outlined on Img. E.
The thickness and stiffening brackets of the casing sections are
suitably sized to withstand vertical loads, primarily consisting
of the weight of the elevator and other structures (platforms,
ladders). Horizontal loads (wind and seismic events) are
countered by the rigid structures to which the elevator is fixed.
The adjacent picture shows an elevator casing with side fixing
elements anchored to the silo.

mounts a tensioning system with adjustment screws and contrast
springs, as shown in the picture.

DRIVE STATION
On EVN bucket elevators, the drive shaft is equipped with a drum
for driving the belt.
The outer surface of the drive drum’s metal casing is bulged

and rubber-lined with a constant-thickness layer of vulcanized
rubber for belt traction. The bulge helps to reduce the risk of belt
misalignment.
A special version drum can also be mounted that includes
interchangeable rubber-lined metal segments fixed to the base
cylindrical drum with a series of bolts lining the two edges of the
drum, as shown in the adjacent pictures.

DRIVE DRUM
The drive drum installed on the head station drives the belt with
buckets: the adjacent picture shows the structure of a drive drum
with interchangeable segments.

The standard tensioning system on EVN bucket elevators is the
version with adjustment screws.
The picture shows a special system with parallel tensioning
system designed for minimizing the adjustment activities.

DRIVE STATION
On ESPC bucket elevators, the drive shaft is
equipped with one toothed wheel that drives the
central chain.
The wheel comprises toothed segments that
are hardened in the zone coming into contact
with the chain, and bolted to the hub to facilitate
replacement (see picture below).

The standard tensioning system on ESPC
elevators is the version with adjustment screws
and contrast springs. Alternatively, a hydraulic
tensioning system is sometimes used on these
elevators. The required hydraulic power unit is Img. AA

INTERMEDIATE BODY
The casing of ESPLV bucket elevators is always
formed by single casing sections, as the large
buckets characterizing this type of elevator
ensure little space remains between the up
run and down run: the buckets also occupy the
middle section of the elevator, as the chains
are anchored to the bucket sides. However,
an intermediate vertical wall divides the single
casing section into two distinct parts to ensure
adequate rigidity.
Img. AI
BOOT STATION
The standard tensioning system is the parallel
tensioning version, although these elevators
are often equipped with a hydraulic tensioning
system, as shown in the picture. This system
design allows easy adjusting – in necessary,
with different parameters on the two sides of
the bucket elevator - the proper tension values
required for operating the bucket elevator
efficiently.

INTERMEDIATE BODY
In order to withstand possible horizontal loads
(wind and seismic events), the bucket elevator
intermediate body must include suitable bracings
that transfer these loads to the adjacent rigid
structures. These brackets may resemble the
structure indicated in the adjacent picture,
which shows a type of bracing for anchoring the
elevator to a rigid vertical wall.

Img. AS, except that the shaft is equipped with
toothed wheels (see Img. BZ).
The drive assembly shown in the adjacent
picture simply comprises an electric motor,
elastic coupling and bevel gearbox. The slow
shaft of the gearbox is hollow so as to form a
self-aligning combination with the elevator shaft
for minimizing transversal dimensions. The “soft
starter” enables the motor to start gradually.

equipped with a hinged arm for sustaining the
weight, thereby guaranteeing maximum safety
during opening/closing operations.

DRIVE STATION
These bucket elevators can lift large-sized lumps
of material (even up to 400 mm), thanks to direct
loading into special “pocket” buckets without any
dredging.
The picture shows the drive station of an ETR
bucket elevator during installation. Note how the
“pocket” buckets are joined together and ensure
gravity discharge in the central zone of the drive
station.

BOOT STATION
Lower section of the bucket elevator comprising
the central feed inlet. The special feed system
configured at the centre of the boot station,
allows for directly feeding the buckets without
dredging thanks to a suitable hopper that
protects the return shaft. In this way, even
exceptionally large-sized lumps of material can
be lifted.

SADDLES [8]
Buckets on medium-large bucket elevators (from EVR 500
upwards) are equipped with a series of metal mounting brackets 8
that are welded to the rear side of the buckets. Thanks to their
shape, the saddles separate the bucket from the belt and enclose
the head of the bolted fixing unit connecting the buckets to the
belt. This gap between bucket and belt helps to protect the
latter when relatively hot material is lifted, as exposure to high
temperatures accelerates ageing of the rubber causing it to
harden prematurely.

SPECIAL VERSION
POSITIVE DISCHARGE
For this type of discharge, the chains are diverted from their
vertical position by two pairs of wheels positioned in the lower
section of the drive station.
In this way, material can be discharged peripherally even with
relatively low speeds (below 0.9 m/sec), as the buckets tip over
completely above the discharge zone.
This version can be applied to certain double-strand elevators
(such as EVD and ESP elevators) by positioning the chains to the
side of the buckets, which must have a special shape.
