CW3 (Tronix)

1. The document describes the design and testing of a bridge-type full-wave rectifier circuit using computed component values and standard component values. 2. Key aspects that were measured and analyzed include the output voltage, surge resistance, filter capacitance, and voltage waveforms across various components when the circuit was tested with an oscillator. 3. Testing showed that with computed values, the output voltage waveform remained horizontal while the voltage across the filter capacitor fluctuated, and the zener diode maintained a constant voltage. Similar results were seen with standard component values.

Computed Value

Fig 1

Circuit Diagram using computed values, Bridge-Type Full-Wave Rectifier, we used 12V as output
voltage, 15V as transformer and 1N4001 as diode. We carefully measure and record the entire
component values prior to circuit construction, computing the Rsurge, Rs and capacitance to run the
program, draw and analyzed the schematic diagram.

Fig 2

Oscillator connected to circuit. Probe A at the zener diode and Probe B at Capacitor. The zener
diode can work as a voltage regulator, since the capacitor is in parallel with zener they have the same
voltage.
Fig 2.1

The comparison output waveform of Vo (color blue) and Vc (color red), the graph shows that the
blue color waveform or the output voltage is in horizontal while the red color fluctuates. The voltage is
constant since they are in parallel.

Fig 3

Oscillator Probe A connected to zener diode and Probe B at transformer, at Channel 1 the voltage is
almost 12 while at Channel 2 the voltage is almost 5.
Fig 3.1

The comparison of output waveform of Vo(blue) and Vsec(red), the Vsec is in greater amplitude,
not complete and has smoother waveform compared to the output voltage, the output across the diode
will be constant.

STANDARD VALUES

Fig 4

Circuit diagram using standard values, the output voltage that we used is 12V and based on the
zener data sheet the device of the output voltage is 1N4742A. Rsurge has 160 watts (wire wound), Rs
has 0.5 watts (carbon) and the capacitance has 25 V (electrolytic).
Figure 5

The oscilloscope Probe A on zener diode and Probe B on capacitor, zener is the same and there
would be a small increase in capacitor since the voltage is not the same as zener.

Figure 5.1

Comparison output Waveform of Vo (blue) and Vc (red), The output voltage is constant while
the Voltage capacitance fluctuates.
Fig 6

The oscilloscope probe A connected on zener and probe B on transformer is the same as figure 3 but
since it is standard values the voltage applied in Channel 2 is negative, the zener remains constant.

Fig 6.1

The comparison of Output waveform Vo(blue) , Vsec(red), the output voltage remains constant
while the red color has high amplitude compared to output voltage and the graph is almost complete
since the voltage is lower the higher the chance to get a complete graph.
