    Topic: Coronavirus and volunteering: How can you help?
    Communicative function: Talking about helping others
    Interaction: pairs
    Target language:
    a. vocabulary associated with the topic of social problems
    b. use of whoever, wherever, etc. and whose, where in relative clauses
    c. expressions to ask for and give opinions
    d. idiomatic expressions: “in good hands” and “make ends meet” from Talking idioms on English

    e. language banks from unit 5 online sessions
    Length of video: Your video should last from 3’ to 4´ (3 to 4 minutes).
    Technical requirements:
     email, Workplace or any social network to make arrangements with your partner
     any video recording tool
     any video editing tool, if necessary
    Note: If you use www.Youtube.com to make the video, change video privacy setting to “public” so your
    teacher can view it.
    Assessment criteria:
     pronunciation and intonation
     accuracy
     interactive communication
     task achievement (organization, clarity and use of webcam)

    Timeline and deadline:
    This task should be prepared along week 5.
    Each student must upload their video or paste the link to your video on Blackboard (Unit 5 file) by Sunday,
    May 3rd 2020 at 23:59 p.m.

    ORAL PRODUCTION TASK INSTRUCTIONS

    After reading the news articles (See below.), exchange your opinions about the acts of
    kindness during the coronavirus outbreak that are narrated in the stories.

    Then, talk about:

     who is mainly in need of help because of the Covid-19 outbreak in our country these days
     what sort of help is being offered these days (housing alternatives? food supplies), etc.)
     how people can get involved in lending a helping hand (charities, donations, volunteerism,
    etc.)
     whether you would volunteer to help, how and why.

    Base your conversation on your personal experiences and on what you see on the news, if you
    want.

    PROCEDURE

    Before recording
     Review unit 5 on English Discoveries.
     Read and do exercises in Unit 5 Use of English file on Blackboard.
     Do exercises from Unit 5 Practice resource files on Blackboard.
     Read these news articles:

     Read the oral production task instructions carefully.
     Together, plan how you are going to start, develop and end your conversation. Some
    improvisation is welcome though.
     When planning, use the vocabulary and grammar structures you have learned in Unit 5. See
    Target language above.
     Make sure both of you will speak equally.

    While recording
     Interact with your partner.
     Improvise, if necessary.
     Be in a well-lit area.
     Speak as clearly as possible.
     Look at the camera while you talk (as often as possible).
     Smile.
     Be confident.
     Don’t just read.
     Show objects, pictures or other people doing things, if necessary.

    After recording

     Make sure both of you have spoken equally.


     Make sure your video respects the time limit.
     Test your video works well before sending the link or uploading the video file.
     Paste the link of your video or upload the video file and the script (the script is referential) in the
    Assignment section (actividad in Unit 5) on Blackboard. Each student should do so.
     Check you have submitted your assignment in Review submission history (Revisar historial de
    envios).
