SHORT COURSE ADVERTISEMENT
Name of the Course: International Shipping Agency Operations and Management

1.0 Training Information


National Institute of Transport offers a six (6) Months Course on International Shipping Agency
Operations and Management. The training will be conducted at NIT MAIN CAMPUS which is located
on west of Dar-es-Salaam City, along Mabibo Road in Ubungo Light Industrial area; just about one
kilometer from the Morogoro Road.

1.1 Aims of this Course


The aim of this course is to produce shipping agency operation personnel for International
shipping, coastal Shipping and inland waterways who have clear knowledge, skills and
attitudes to various tasks in the shipping industry business.
1.2 Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the graduates will be able to carry out diversified role of:

 Shipping agencies like port agent, line agent, Inward cargo documentation, outward
cargo documentation, container monitoring; ship husbandry operation, ship operations
supervisors, tallying etc,
 Ports, terminals, and dry port operations,
 Freight forwarding like custom documentation, port clearance, freight bookings etc.

1.3 Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement into this course is:


 Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6) OR
 Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations with three-years experience as
Shipping Agent Officer/Clerks, Shipping Line Officer/Clerks, Shipping Regulator
Officer/Clerks, Port or ICD Officer/Clerks or Tallying Officer/Clerks, clearing and
forwarding officers.

1.4 Duration of the Course


This course lasts for Six (6) Months which comprises of Three (3) Months theory and
another Three (3) Months for practical Training.

 Cargo Types and Ships
 Cargo Preparation and Handling Practice
 Shipping Organization, Operation, and Trade
 Ports and Terminals Operation
 Professional Ethics
 Business Communication and Customer Care
 Principles of Freight Forwarding
 Ship husbandry and cargo operations
 Inward cargo documentation
 Container monitoring

1.6 Course fees


Tuition fees for the course is Tshs. 900,000/= per participant. Payment must be done through control
number that will be issued immediately to the applicant. Please confirm your participation by requesting
a control number and pay tuition fees
