Uses of Screencast-o-matic
Video Announcements
In Online coursework, it is helpful for students to see their instructors throughout the class.
Screencast-o-matic can be used on a regular basis to create video announcement. As an
instructor, you may decide to create a weekly announcement-reviewing the locations of the
assignments, as well as discussing assignment expectations. Or, you may decide to use
screencast-o-matic to create an introduction video for your students to view.
Mini-Lecture
The Screencast-o-matic tool may also be used if you would like to create a mini-lecture for your
class. Perhaps the discussion board has brought up a certain topic, that you would like to expand
upon as the instructor, screencast-o-matic, will allow you to create this presentation (as long as it
is under 15 minutes). After you complete your recording, you are able to share your additional
thoughts and insights with the class.
Tutorial
Often students become confused with some of the features of the Learning Management System
(LMS). In this case, you as the instructor can create a tutorial that will guide the student through
the problematic areas. The student will be able to video your video to help with this problem
(whether it be locating an assignment, figuring out a feature on Blackboard, etc.).
Feedback on an Assignment
You may decide to use Screencast-o-matic to provide feedback in an assignment. To do this, you
will open the document you wish to provide feedback, and then open Screencast-o-matic. Once
you click record, go throughout your document and record comments as needed throughout the
document review. Next, decide how you want to publish your document (see above).
The video created by the Cii details how to provide feedback using Screencast-o-matic:
**It should be noted that the Video Everywhere tool no longer exists on Blackboard. You can instead
utilize the Mashup button or the Insert/Embedded Media tab to post your video. For the Mashup
button, simply click on the button and then go to the Youtube video option. Once you see your video hit
the “insert” button. At that point you will be directed to another page. Enter your Youtube link, chose
your preference and hit submit. Your video should now be posted. For the Insert/Embedded Media
option, you will be taken to another page. Copy and paste your Youtube link, select your options and hit
submit. Your video feedback is now ready to be submitted.
