STARTUP-BASIC SOFTWARE START UP GUIDE

1 GENERAL
1.1 About this guide
This guide describes the required operations to install and configure Atos E-SW-BASIC(/PQ) programming
software for Atos digital electrohydraulics.
Before installing or operating the driver for the first time, read this guide.
The purpose of this guide is not to cover all the details or variations of Atos drivers and software, and it does not
provide complete details for all possible working conditions; if any further information or technical support are
required, please contact the Technical Sales Support of Atos Electronic Division ([email protected]).
The guide contains important safety instructions (see 2), whose knowledge is required to:
 avoid hazards and dangers
 minimize repair costs and downtime
 increase the working and reliability of the driver
In addition please follow up all the current regulations of the country/community where the drivers will be used.
A basic skill in using personal computers and Windows® operating system is required.

1.2 Trademarks
All Atos trademarks ™ and ® are distinctive sign of Atos rights, know-how, and in general intellectual
properties. Partial or full-unauthorized reproduction of this guide, images, logos, or casting through internet,
may be object of punishment by local law.

1.3 Atos Download Area

Latest releases of manuals, E-SW software, USB

drivers and access passwords are available on Atos
internet Download Area (www.download.atos.com).
To access Atos Download Area it is required to
activate the full software via web registration :
Atos support service will send an e-mail containing
the required ‘Username’ and ‘Password’ (see 3.3).
During registration to Atos Download Area, fill-in the
serial number printed on E-SW DVD to receive also
the software Activation Code (see 3.3).

An automatic e-mail service will inform all users of registered software whenever new software updates
are available.
Additional information about valves, electronic drivers and software can be found into the E-SW DVD or
in the Atos Catalog on-line.

STARTUP-BASIC SOFTWARE START UP GUIDE

2 SAFETY PRESCRIPTIONS
The software and the connected electronics must not be operated until it has been determined that the system
in which they are installed, meets all applicable standards and safety regulations for the application.

2.1 General warning

 all information and instructions reported in this guide and in the supplementary documentation (see 3.2),
must always be observed to avoid damage and injury

During the store/restore operations of the driver permanent memory:

- current to valve solenoid is switched off (operate store/restore with no active valve regulation in the
system, e.g. disabling the driver)
- do not turn off power supply (driver parameter lose may occur)

Driver faults may compromise safety or change operating conditions, shut down the driver immediately
and notify qualified personnel.

 all of the relevant local and plant/machine specific regulations must be always observed
Hazardous situations may occur whenever the driver:
 is not properly transported and stored
 is altered or modified
 is not installed, commissioned and operated by qualified persons
 is not used properly
Adherence to limits defined by regulations and standards are the responsibility of the manufacturer of the
system or machine.

2.2 Personnel selection and qualification

Qualified personnel, in the sense of this document, are:
 persons properly trained and authorized to install, start-up and operate with E-SW software and the
relevant digital drivers in accordance with the established safety prescriptions and procedures
 persons who, based on their technical/standards knowledge and training, are able to evaluate their tasks,
to recognize potential hazards and to carry out the correct safety measures
Additionally the oversight of a qualified supervisor may be advised.

2.3 Electrical installation warning

Please, refer to specific valve, driver documents (see 3.2) for recommendations about valve installation.

WARNING: drivers serial port is not insulated!

Wrong earthing connections may cause high potential difference between GNDs, generating high currents
inside the driver and damaging electronic circuit. Before to connect Atos driver to PC USB port or PC serial
RS232 port, check correct potential level of earthing connection.

WARNING: drivers USB port is not isolated!

For drivers with USB port, the USB isolator adapter (see GS500) is highly recommended for PC
protection: wrong earthing connections may cause high potential difference between GNDs, generating
high currents that could damage the PC connected to integral closed loop drivers. Before connecting Atos
driver to PC USB port, check correct potential level of earthing connection.

6.2 Software start-up with connected valve - (ON-LINE mode)

To completely verify the programming tools

installation and configuration, it is required to:

 connect valve to the PC (see 4.1)

 apply power supply to the connected valve (refer
to specific driver operating manual – see 3.2)
 launch E-SW software by program shortcut on
Windows desktop or start menu -> programs
 if software cannot start-up with the valve (ON-
LINE mode) try to operate without the valve
(OFF-LINE mode - see 6.3)

6.2.1 Driver connection not available

At start-up the E-SW software searches
automatically an available interface to communicate
with the connected valve/driver. If the connection is
not valid, it will display the software page shown at
side. The user can choose how to proceed:
 ON-LINE to retry the connection in two different
modality:
Wizard procedure – see 6.2.2
Manual procedure – see 6.2.3
 OFF LINE - see 6.3

6.2.2 ON-LINE - Wizard procedure [recommended]

Verify adapter and cables connection from PC to
driver: press AUTOMATIC - RECOMMENDED
button to start the automatic wizard procedure;
press CONNECT TO NP, PS, IR button .

NP = USB; PS = Serial; IR = Infrared

STARTUP-BASIC SOFTWARE START UP GUIDE

6.2.3 ON-LINE - Manual procedure [expert users only]

Verify adapter and cables connection from PC to
driver: press MANUAL - EXPERT button to
perform the manual procedure (see 6.2.4 for
detailed description).

E-SW communication settings can be modified only in OFF-LINE status.

6.2.4 Communication Parameters [expert users only]

In Communication software page is possible set the communication parameters.

This procedure is available only for valve connected through E-C-SB-USB/M12 or E-C-SB-USB/BM cable
(see 4.1.1). Use of E-A-SB-USB/OPT isolator adapter is highly recommended for PC protection.

Interface
Use the control to selects the Serial-USB communication as
the active interface to the connected driver in NP, PS, IR
execution (see 4.1).

Speed
The control allows the user to select the speed of the serial
communication with the connected driver: high speeds allow a
faster update of displayed data but may cause Timeout
communication errors.
 select E-SW speed

By default the valves/drivers with Serial-USB

communication interface are delivered with speed 57600
bit/sec.

PC port
The control allows the user to select, which USB port has to be used to communicate with the connected
driver among the available USB ports.
 select PC port to communicate with the connected valve

Atos valves are recognized as STMicroelectronic Virtual Port

Retry Connection
 press button to try to connect with the valve using current communication settings

Once verified that all wirings are correct and pressing the driver connection is still not available, please
contact Atos technical support (see 6.3.1).

E-SW communication settings can be modified only in OFF-LINE mode.

When installing new E-SW software version check the communication configuration settings.
