ECE 205 Spring 2015: Homework 6

The homework assignment includes 6 problems: calculating Thevenin resistances for 2 circuits; plotting capacitor voltage, current, and other signals for a circuit with a switched capacitor; plotting inductor current and resistor voltage for a circuit with a switched inductor; and computing voltages Vab and Vbc for a circuit with a stepped input voltage. The assignment is due on March 4th at 5:00 PM.

ECE 205 Spring 2015: Homework 6

Due Wednesday 3/4 at 5:00 PM:

1) KnI 3.3
2) KnI 3.12
3) Consider the two circuits shown in the figures below. Find the Thevenin resistance seen at
terminals 𝑎 − 𝑏 for each circuit at time 𝑡 = 0+ .

4) Consider the circuit shown below. The switch in the circuit is moved at t = 0 as shown in the
figure. Assuming that the capacitor is in DC steady state when the switch is moved, calculate and
plot the capacitor voltage vc(t), capacitor current ic(t), ix(t), and iy(t) for time t > 0.

5) Consider the circuit shown below. The switch in the circuit is moved at t = 0 as shown in the
figure. Assuming that the inductor is in DC steady state when the switch is moved, calculate and
plot the inductor current i(t) and resistor voltage v(t) for time t > 0. Is there something
interesting to be said for voltage v(t) as related to the voltage source V1?

6) Consider the circuit shown below. The input voltage waveform for V1 is given as the graph to
the left. Assume that the circuit is in steady state at time t = 0, compute the voltages Vab and
Vbc soon after the input transition, i.e at time t = 0+.
