Saudi Aramco Test Report: UPS Distribution System, Energized Bolted - Fault Test SATR-P-3112 3-Jul-18 Elect

The document is a test report for a UPS distribution system fault test. It details test procedures to conduct a bolted fault test on the system to verify proper fuse coordination. This includes placing a bolted fault on a branch circuit and verifying the branch circuit fuse clears without affecting upstream devices. Earth fault tests are also described to test the system's response. Test acceptance criteria reference Saudi Aramco engineering standards and contractual requirements.

A. TEST PROCEDURE AND CHECKLIST

A bolted fault test (three phases connected to ground) shall be conducted

SAES-P-103
A1 on the UPS distribution system to establish that proper fuse coordination
Sec. 8.5.9
has been achieved.

Conduct the test by placing a bolted fault, by means of a contactor, on a SAES-P-103

A2
typical branch circuit of the UPS distribution system. Sec. 8.5.9

The branch circuit fuse shall clear the fault without affecting any upstream SAES-P-103
A3
fuses and circuit breakers. Sec. 8.5.9

Testing of batteries shall be in full compliance with GI-0002.100 "Work SAEP-350

A4
Permit System". Sec. 3.1

UPS rated output fault clearing capability - Normal mode

Short circuit test shall be made by a suitable fuse/circuit-breaker of a
current rating in accordance with the manufacturer's/supplier's stated
SAES-P-103
A5 protective device clearance capability. The output dynamic performance
Sec. 3.2
shall remain within the limits during this event unless otherwise stated by
the manufacturer/supplier.
IEC 62040-3, Sec. 6.3.5.5

A short-circuit shall be applied to the UPS output and the following items
shall be measured for a UPS without bypass and with the a.c. power
applied:
a) the operation of protective devices or circuits;
b) the peak output short-circuit current; SAES-P-103
A6
c) the output steady-state short-circuit current and length of time, if Sec. 3.2
specified.
Use of appropriate circuit protective devices (fuses, circuit-breakers) shall
be permitted when making these tests.
IEC 62040-3, Sec. 6.6.19

Earth fault test:

If the UPS output is isolated from earth and the load system is isolated
from earth relying on earth leakage detection, then an earth fault can be
applied to any output terminals. UPS output transient (if any) shall be SAES-P-103
A7
measured and remain within the limits. If the d.c. link is isolated from Sec. 3.2
earth, then an earth fault can be applied to a battery terminal and the UPS
output transients (if any) shall be measured.
IEC 62040-3, Sec. 6.6.27

Saudi Aramco: Company General Use

Earth fault test:
If the UPS switch is isolated from earth, then an earth fault can be applied
SAES-P-103
A8 to any terminal. UPS switch transients shall be measured and shall not
Sec. 3.2
exceed the limits.
IEC 62040-3, Sec. 6.7.13

B. TEST EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS CRITERIA

SAEP-350
B1 Use the following precautions when working on the batteries
Sec. 3.3

a) Use adequately insulated tools.

b) Use caution when working on batteries since they represent electric shock hazard.
c) Prohibit smoking and open flames, and avoid the chance of arcing in the immediate vicinity of the battery.
d) Ensure the battery room ventilation is operational and the battery room temperature is maintained at 25ºC.
e) Ensure unobstructed egress from the battery room area.
f) Avoid wearing metallic object such as jewelry.
g) Ensure that the load test leads are clean, in good condition, and connected with a sufficient length of cable to prevent accidental arcing in the vicinity
of the battery.
h) Ensure that the load test leads ampacity is adequate for the discharge current of each battery bank.
i) Ensure that all connections to load test equipment include short-circuit protection.
j) Neutralize static buildup just before working on a battery by having personnel contact nearest effectively grounded surface.
k) Make sure that all vents of the cells/batteries are closed tightly before starting the battery testing process.

Maintenance and test data shall be dated, recorded, and maintained in a

SAEP-350
B2 permanent file to facilitate required future maintenance, testing and
Sec. 4
analysis of the operating data.

The test equipment calibration cycle shall not exceed twelve months.
