☒ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tools (BBPT)
and put a side way thumb if they kind of know. I will then have a couple of students share what they know
about Martin Luther King Jr. and write them down on the board. To get students more familiar Martin Luther
King Jr, I will play a video on BrainPOP Jr. Afterwards, I will discuss with students the significance of his role in
American History and how we have a national holiday dedicated to him, as well as many other national
holidays and events that we celebrate. I will then read aloud the standard SSKH1. Identify the national
holidays and describe the people and/or events celebrated. After reading aloud the standard, I will tell
students that they will have the chance to learn more about national holidays and people/ or events
celebrated in America.
Students will have the opportunity to work with a group or have the choice to work by themselves after they
pick one of the following national holidays: Christmas, Columbus Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Martin
Luther King Jr., Memorial Day, New Year’s Day, Presidents Day, Thanksgiving, or Veteran’s Day. Once students
have their group (or working independently) and their chosen holiday, I will pass out a sheet that has six
questions on it and let students know they will it use to help find out more about their holidays including
when the holiday is celebrated, the importance behind the holiday, whether an event or person inspired the
holiday, whether there are special traditions done on the holiday, who all celebrates the holiday, whether it is
celebrated across the world or just America and two fun facts they found. Students will have two day and a
half day to find the answers to the questions before they transfer it to Board Builder. During the time they are
finding answers, I will be walking around and providing verbal feedback to students and helping guide them if
they get stuck or become confused. This lesson will help students extend their learning to a higher learning
level as they are moving past just knowing and understanding information. In this lesson, students are
analyzing the different national holidays celebrated in the United States and the reasons we do. Students will
be able to use a variety of different resources including BrainPOP, Discovery Education, hands provided from
me to help, and the Internet. On the third day, I will introduce Board Builder to students and show them how
to add pictures, videos, and their facts to the poster. Students will use the third and fourth day to put their
facts onto the Board Builder and add 1-2 pictures and a small video clip. As students are working, I will walk
around and help students use Board Builder. On the last day of the week, students will have the chance to
present their poster to the last. Students will be assessed on whether they were able to answer all six
questions, provide pictures, and a video to their poster. To conclude the lesson, I will have a matching game
created for students to play. Students will match an image with the holiday.
Reflective Practice:
After designing this lesson idea, I feel that the activities created will impact the way students learning by the
way they learn to research and examine information. It will help create a fun and engaging lesson for students
and provides them choices in their learning, including working in a group or by themselves and choose what
interests them the most. The tool being used will help students enhance their work and productivity. To
further extend this lesson, students could use Padlet to create a timeline of the national holidays and events
and put them in chronological order. To help expand this to a higher LoTi, I could put student posters on the
class website or in the hallway for all to see.
