Natural Selection Mind Map Instructions
2. Please read through the directions and the assignment rubric in order to fully
understand the assignment requirements and expectations. This assignment will
have you make connections between your past knowledge from previous units and
new information from the evolution unit.
3. Create a concept map using the Popplet software program. If you have not used
Popplet software before, click on the linked video here to learn how to use this
mind mapping tool. You will be using Popplet to make a mind map on the concept
of natural selection. In Poppet, you create bubbles with your topic in it and
connect other bubbles to make your mind map. Your first bubble will be “Natural
Selection” and you will include a short definition for the term in the bubble.
4. Watch this video called Recipe for Natural Selection. From the information
from this video, make three bubbles connected to the “Natural Selection” bubble
for each of the requirements of natural selection. Type a short definition for each
in the bubble.
5. Read chapter 16-2 in your Prentice Hall text book on natural selection. Use this
information and your previous knowledge from the genetics and ecology units to
make connections with the requirements of natural selection. You must create at
least three supporting detail bubbles for each requirement and use at least 3 images
in your mind map. The images can represent case studies previously covered that
connects with what we are learning about natural selection. This assignment
requires a minimum of 13 bubbles total for your mind map. For the minimum

6. The mind map should be logically organized and the supporting details should
expand on natural selection as the main idea.
7. Submit your Popplet link to your completed mind map on the assignment
posted on google classroom.

** Please note on the rubric: In order to receive mid-score (3), some of the components from
the “5” descriptor is missing. A score of a “1” means the component was barely present and
not of high quality.
