CHAPTER 2

METHODOLOGY

This chapter discusses the research design and methodology, population

and locale of the study, data gathering procedures and treatment of data which

will be utilized by the researcher in conducting the study.

Research Design

This study used the descriptive research method which is designed for the

researchers to gather information about present existing conditions needed in the

chosen field of study. This method enables the researchers to interpret the

stheoretical meaning of the findings and hypothesis development for further

studies. Descriptive research involves the description, recording, analysis and

interpretation of the present nature, composition or  processes

of phenomena which focuses on prevailing conditions, or how a person, group or

thing behaves or functions in the present (Calderon, 2012). The researcher is

descriptive since its primary purpose is to describe, relate, interpret and analyze

the Factors affecting the Interest and Motivation to study of the Junior High

School Learners at Lipit National High School.

Source of Data

The study used the enumeration of population of the Junior High School

Learners at Lipit National High School. The number of respondents are (80)

coming from the Junior High School Learners which are the Grade 7, Grade 8,

Grade 9 and Grade 10.

Table 1 shows the respondents of the study

Instrumentation and Data Collection

The researcher generated the questionnaire based on literature and

articles.  O n t h e f i r s t p a r t , t h e r e s e a r c h e r will use a four-point Likert

scale: Strongly Agree (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (D), Strongly Disagree (SD),

distribute to the following aspects: Facilities, School Structure, Teacher and

Administrator, Classroom Atmosphere and Personal Values.

The researcher asked permission prior to the administration of the final

copies of the questionnaire. A letter of request to conduct the study will be

submitted to the School Principal Administrator for approval.

The gathering of data will be made through the collection and analyses of

data that provide by the respondents who will accomplish the given

questionnaire, the researcher will schedule it during the respondents break time

and it will be properly done in their respective school of assignment for orderly

floating of questionnaires. The retrieved questionnaire will be tallied and

organized through the Microsoft Excel. The anonymity of data will be maintained

in this study. All data will be handled with utmost confidentiality.

Tools for Data Analysis

The information collected, the questionnaire will be collated, analyzed and

interpreted, which will provide answers to the problems embodied in this study.

Average Weighted Mean (AWM) will be used to determine the Factors

affecting the Interest and Motivation to study in terms of the following aspects:

Facilities, School Structure, Teacher and Administration, Classroom Atmosphere

and Personal Values.

The level of Factors affecting the Interest and Motivation to study is

interpreted as follows.

Scale Statistical Descriptive Equivalent

4 3.26 – 4.00 Strongly Agree (SA)

3 2.51 – 3.25 Agree (A)

2 1.76 – 2.50 Disagree (D)

1 1.00 – 1.75 Strongly Disagree (SD)

Statistical Treatment of Data

The profile of the respondents was determined through frequency counts

and percentage wherein the following formula was used:

n
100  %
N

Wherein: n = total number of the respondents of the certain profile .

N = total number of the respondents.

To determine the Factors affecting the Interest and Motivaation to study of

the learners at Lipit National High School the Average Weighted Mean was used

with the following formula:

4 ( f 4 )  3( f 3)  2 ( f 2 ) 1( f 1)
AWM  N

Wherein: N = total number of the respondents

f (4) = total score on Strongly Agree

f (3) = total score on Agree

f (2) = total score on Disagree

f (1) = total score on Strongly Disagree

The weighted mean values are interpreted using the following scale:

3. 26 - 4.00 = Strongly Agree

2.51 - 3.25 = Agree

1.76 - 2.50 = Disagree

1.00- 1.75 = Strongly Disagree

The same statistical tool was used to determine the Factors affecting the

Interest and Motivation to study.

The weighted mean values are interpreted using the following scales:

3.25 – 4.00 = Strongly Agree

2.50 – 3.24 = Agree

1.75 – 2.49 = Disagree

1.00 – 1.74 = Strongly Disagree
