of ∆ABC.
4. A letter is chosen at random from the word ‘PROBABILITY’. Find the probability that it
is a vowel.

5. Find the value 𝑘, such that the following quadratic equation has equal roots
(𝑘 − 12)𝑥 2 − 2(𝑘 − 12)𝑥 + 2 = 0.
7. Find the value of 𝑝 for which the points 𝐴(−1, 3), 𝐵(2, 𝑝) and 𝐶(5, −1) are collinear. Also,
find the ratio in which B divides AC.
8. In the given figure, O is the centre of the circle, PT is the tangent drawn from the point P
to the circle and PAB passes through the centre O of the circle.
If PT = 6 cm and PA = 3 cm, then find the radius of the circle.
9. The sum of two numbers is 9 and the sum of their reciprocals is ½. Find the numbers.
10. If 6th term of an AP is −10 and its 10th term is −26, then find the 15th term of an AP.

tree get bent? What was the original height of the tree?

15. In the given figure, ABC is a quadrant of a circle of radius 14 cm and a semi-circle is drawn
with AC as a diameter. Find the area of the shaded region.
18. A toy is in the form of a cone mounted on a hemisphere of radius 3.5 cm. The total height
of the toy is 15.5 cm. Find the total surface area of the toy.

20. From a point on the ground 60 m away from the foot of a tower, the angle of elevation of
the top of the tower is 30°. The angle of elevation to the top of a water tank (on the top of
the tower) is 45°. Find
(i) Height of the tower.

21. In a flight of 6000 km, an aircraft was slowed down due to bad weather. The average speed
for the trip was reduced by 400 km/h and the time of flight increased by 30 min. Find the
original duration of the flight.
22. If the sum of the first 𝑚 terms of an AP is 𝑛 and the sum of first 𝑛 terms is 𝑚. Then, show
that the sum of its first (𝑚 + 𝑛) terms is −(𝑚 + 𝑛).
23. A ladder rests against a vertical wall at an inclination α to the horizontal. Its foot is pulled
away from the wall through a distance 𝑝, so that its upper end slides a distance 𝑞 down the
wall and then the ladder makes an angle β to the horizontal. Show that

24. A shuttle cock used for playing badminton has the shape of a frustum of a cone mounted
on a hemisphere as shown in the figure.
The external diameters of the frustum are 6 cm and 2 cm; and the height of the entire shuttle
cock is 7 cm. Find its external surface area.
25. Find the common difference of an AP whose first term is 1 and the sum of the first four
terms is one-third to the sum of the next four terms.
26. A circle touches the side BC of a ∆ABC at P and the extended sides AB and AC at Q and

30. The height of a cone is 30 cm. A small cone is cut-off at the top by a plane parallel to the
base. If its volume is 1 / 27th of the volume of the cone, at what height above the base is
the section made ?
31. Show that the points (12, 8), (−2, 6) and (6, 0) are the vertices of a right angled triangle.
Also, show that the mid-point of the hypotenuse is equidistant from the angular points.
