Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have transformed libraries and the role of information professionals. ICTs have provided new digital means for storing and sharing information, replacing traditional paper-based collections. Libraries have adapted services and automation systems using new technologies like RFID. As a result, the skills required of information professionals have changed - they must now be proficient with emerging ICTs and digital library systems, as well as have strong communication skills to serve users in the digital era.
