Grade 11 – 21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World
(Continuation of Lesson - February 5, 2018)

OBJECTIVES
CONTENT STANDARDS The learner will be able to understand and appreciate literary texts in various genres across national literature and
cultures.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD A written close analysis and critical interpretation of a literary text in terms of form and theme, with a description of its
context derived from research
LEARNING COMPETENCIES Writing a close analysis and critical interpretation of literary texts, applying a reading approach, and doing an adaptation
of these, require from the learner the ability to:
1. identify representative texts and authors from Asia, North America, Europe, Latin America, and Africa
CONTENT
A. LEARNING AREA World Literature – African Literature
B. TIME ALLOTMENT 60 minutes (1 Hour)
C. MATERIALS Picture Clip, Laptop, Projector, Manila Paper, Marker, Slide Deck
D. REFERENCES Internet/Textbook
PRIMING
Review: Entry Pass
Nature of Activity: Individual
Time Frame: 5-Minute and 3-Minute presentation (for every selected students)
Direction: The teacher will pick a student from the class and will ask question from the previous lesson about the theme about The Story of the Aged Mother
ACTIVITY
Activity Title: Reflect-A-Song
Nature of Activity: Individual
Time Frame: 10-Minute
Direction: From the song Freedom sung by African-American Pharell Williams, the students will read the lyrics and listen and think of something that is related
to the word “Africa”.

Direction: After reading the poem Africa by David Diop, the students will write a one-word idea and give short explanation about what they found out.

Name of Task: Exhibit Me! (Mini Exhibit)
Nature of Activity: Group
Time Frame: 20-Minute preparation and 8-Minute Presentation each group
Direction: The class will be grouped into 10 groups. Each group will present different items that will represent and symbolizes the content of the poem Africa
by David Diop.

Criteria:

EVALUATION
Name of Task: Reflective Essay

Direction: Each group will write a reflective essay about the situation of the African people from then up to now. Minimum of 250 words.
