I. OBJECTIVES
2. Describe distinctive musical elements of given pieces in 20 th Century Styles;
2.1 Discuss the historical and cultural background of impressionism
2.2 Name the notable painters and composers of impressionistic music
2.3 Appreciate the music of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: 20th Century Musical Styles


Sub-topic: Impressionism
B. Materials: DVD/CD recordings, video clips, or recordings from YouTube/Internet of Impressionistic,
Neo-Classicist, Avant Garde, and Modern Nationalistic Music CD/VCD/DVD/Karaoke players,
computers, laptops, netbooks, tablets, I pads, mobile phones, MP3/MP4 players, Visual Arts pictures
of Impressionistic, and Modern Nationalistic Paintings, chart of music scores.
C. Reference: Music Grade 10 LM – Pages 4-7
D. Integration: Integration of Music with Arts, Literature and History through the use of paintings and
music recordings, Localization of Curriculum

III. LESSON PROPER


A. ACTIVITY/IES
1. Review: Concepts on previous lessons on Romantic Period.
2. Motivation: Use the displayed pictures or posters of the paintings of Impressionist painter
Claude Monet and Edouard Manet. On a piece of pad paper have the students describe each of
the pictured in their own word (5 minutes). Collect their works. Call some volunteer students to
read their descriptions or observations. Connect these to the new lesson.

B. ANALYSIS
1. What are your insights about the works of the painters presented?
2. How are paintings related to music?

C. ABSTRACTION
Lecture – discussion on:
 Impressionism in Music
 Listening Activity
 Notable Painters/Composers

D. APPLICATION
1. What is meant by Impressionism?
2. Who were the proponents of Impressionistic movement in music?
3. Who were the proponents of Impressionistic movement in music?
4. What characterizes impressionistic music?
5. Give example of Debussy’s work?

Giving of written test
