ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
Introduction
The Environmental Policy demonstrates and drives Black Pearl Solutions
commitment to continual improvement in environmental performance. It is a statement of actual commitment from Senior Management and will establish an overall sense of direction and set guiding principles for the implementation of the Environmental Management System.
Black Pearl Solutions is continually striving towards sound environmental
performance and socio-economic improvement. Environmental management is approached and implemented in an integrated manner with accountability at every level. Responsible Environmental Management is an essential component for achieving sustained economic and social development while ensuring environmental protection.
Black Pearl Solutions will comply with all relevant government policies and environmental legislation, in particular any government initiatives. We will annually, or when required, review environmental management action plans and assess whether the objectives and targets are being met.
The Environmental Management System will be made available to all Black Pearl Solutions employees through the Intranet, and employees will be encouraged to work closely with each other, with employees from other Departments, Contractors, Unions, clients, suppliers and other interested parties to continually refine our work practices to reach best practice standards.
Scope
The implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS) within Black
Pearl Solutions has been an ongoing management initiative for the past few years. The intention was to design and implement an EMS compliant to ISO 14001. This policy covers the office based operations of Black Pearl Solutions and is available to both internal and external interested parties, and is periodically reviewed and revised to reflect changing conditions and information.
A strategy and an action plan, detailing the implementation of all the elements of ISO 14001 to ensure conformance is being compiled. Accountabilities for the EMS are being stipulated for the various managers. The implementation of the EMS is, furthermore, being integrated into the overall risk management strategy of the business.
The Commitment
In order to contribute towards sustainable economic and social development, Black
Pearl Solutions is committed to the continual improvement of its environmental performance. This is achieved by developing and integrating an Environmental Management System (EMS) within the organisation. Key environmental legislation, such as the National Environmental Management Act, National Water Act and the Constitution itself, places more emphasis on proactive environmental management. EMS is an effective management tool for assuring compliance, reducing risk, satisfying stakeholders and demonstrating due diligence.
Black Pearl Solutions commits to the following:
Identifying, implementing and promoting best practice environmental management systems and operations. Operating in an ecologically sustainable manner by reducing waste and the use of energy and resources. Complying with relevant Government Environment Legislation and with the Government’s environmental policies and initiatives. Providing an environmentally sound workplace, and implement environmentally sound work practices. Working closely with its employees, contractors, suppliers, clients and the community to develop and implement agreed environmental initiatives. developing a monitoring program to assess environmental performance, Communicating its environmental management to all its stakeholders, and implementing a process of continuous improvement. Supporting the Government’s commitment to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) as a means of ensuring the protection of South Africa’s environment, the sustainable use of natural resources, and the promotion of social and economic development.
