INTRODUCTION

In a few words, identify and address a problem and a proposed solution. You can focus on common
dilemmas, new trends, changing techniques, industry comparisons, new entries to market, etc. How do
you propose on solving this issue and what are your recommendations? The solution is based on a
thorough examination of the problem and potential solutions.

Make sure you that you have your audience in mind when you write your white paper. Who is your
audience and what are you trying to convey? Are they industry experts or is this an investment pitch to a
business audience? This should help you set the tone and the correct verbiage for your paper.

Analyzing user data

 Where? Place where users use data: site visits

 Conduct observation notes
 Extract true pain points
 Design solutions

Personas

 Basis for designing

 Who build things for
 Set characters – specific attributes
 Take needs into account
 Creat explicit personas: make ur user concrete
 Common attributes
 Help assure consistent interface

Ideation

 Best solutions
 Remove constraints
 Think broadly = better solutions
 Get input and agreement
 Everyone can propose new ideas
 Individual ideas to consensus
 Everyone is involved
 Why certain ideas don’t work

Scenarios and Storyboards

 Describe ideal future

 Get work done without problems
 Mechanisms to achieve outcome – users complete tasks
 Interactions bet users, industry
 Plan out scenes

Paper prototyping

 Test concepts
 Run usability tests
 Verify design – task flows properly

6
 Participants give honest and feedback – actionable
 Learn about viability about proposed design
 No cost

Implementation Planning

 Map out diff capabilities needed to build a real product

 Prioritize capabilities
 Relations bet items
 Opp to get feedback before beta testing

User-centered design techniques

 Early user feedback – resolve pain points

 Faster to market – realize business benefits sooner
 Faster delivery
1) User data

7
USER EXPERIENCE RESEARCH

 Iterative testing – uncover changing needs of customer

Research methods

 Usability testing – ask users to perform tasks and ask follow up qs – help choose between design
