Introductory Message For the facilitator
(This module is designed for learners to learn at home. It is composed of lessons in
use of hand tools and equipment. The flow of the lesson is designed for learners to continue learning despite of difficulty in coming to school due to various factors that impede attendance to physical classroom. Learners will be guided by their parents and older siblings in reading and learning the different lessons in this module. Pre- test, self-check exercises and post-test are included to test the knowledge of the learners in each lesson before, during and after learning to be answered in a separate sheet. Feedbacking shall be done online between you and the learners to ensure the attainment of the objectives of this module.
For the learner:
This module is designed for you to learn at home in times of difficult situations that will affect your attendance in class. It is composed of lessons in uses of hand tools and equipment. You have to take the pre-test before moving to the different lessons in this module. In each lesson, there are activities that will help you check your learnings. After you have done learning this module, answer the post-test. Use a separate sheet in answering the post-test, self-check and post-test.
The tests that you will answer will help you determine your knowledge before, during and after learning the different lessons.

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you master the uses of hand tools and equipment. The scope of this module permits it to be used in many different learning situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can be changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.

PROPER TOOL SELECTION
A tool is a handheld device that aids in accomplishing a task.
How do you select the best tool for the job?
1. Know and understand the scope of work to be done and plan for the scope taking into account the sequence of task.
2. Selecting the best tool for each task requires training and field experience in their safe use. You must follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and instructions for the specific tool to avoid accidents.
3. When obtaining the tool, all associated consumable parts must be
included and must be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Safe use of tools
Once you have selected a tool, you must use it for the purpose it was designed for your safety. Some tools doesn’t have detailed instructions but there are those who have written at the back of the packaging. Your judgement must always be based on what is the safest way to use the tool. Proper care of tools
All tools must be kept in good condition with regular
maintenance. Always use the right tool for a specific task only. Examine each tool before use. Damaged or defective tools must NOT be used. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using a tool. Wear the right protective equipment for the tool to be used.
Hardware Tools
To perform hardware repairs, you must have a toolkit with all the necessary tools to accomplish different tasks. As you gain experience you will learn which tools to possess for different kinds of jobs. Hardware tools are grouped into these four categories.
