Abstrack
The following is a report that we search and explore for local rocks, minerals
and fossil of malaysia. Other than that , we also observed at some place in malaysia
and decided to choose Bukit Tengkorak , Semporna , Sabah as our case study 1 and
Geowarisan Gunung Keriang , Alor Setar , Kedah for case study 2 . So for this
purpose , we got the oppurtunity to archive our goal to gain more knowledge and
identify about local rocks , mineral and fossils
The report involve with all characteristic , habit , features , physical properties ,
and hardnesss . In the first part of the report , the information of the type locals rock ,
minerals and fossils at Malaysia was state . The information was gathered and
organised by the source that we have found .
In the second part of the report , our case study 1 that we had at Bukit Tengkorak
, Semporna , Sabah contain all local rocks , minerals and fossils description . The
objective for this case to make sure we know more about the the physical properties
and characteristic for every each mineral that exist . We have found 3 rocks , 2
minerals and 4 fossils .
For case study 2 we has choose Geowarisan Gunung Keriang , Alor Setar ,
Kedah which has sequence of limestone layer that known as kodiang formation and
chuping formation . In this case , we only found 1 rock , 1 mineral and 1 fossil . The
cave has a lot of intresting features of calcite such as flowstone , staligmites ,
stalactites and crystal calcite . The information about was gathered and will be explain
more on the report .
Acknowledgement
First and foremost, we would like to express our gratitude to Dr Alsidqi Hasan
and Ir Dr Norazzlina for giving us this opportunity on doing this case study. For their
guidance toward the completion of this research. This project could have been
successfully completed without their them sharing their knowledge with grace and
anticipation.
The success of this research cannot be reached with the immense involvement of
our group member which include Nur Athirah Binti Bugin, Ryana Batrisha Binti
Jamali, Sharifah Mariam Binti Wan Ahmad, Suhaira Binti Abu Bakar, Nur Fatin
Batrisya Binti Musa. Their contribution of knowledge and ideas and involvement
have taken a major part on this research.
We are extremely grateful for our classmates for giving the information needed
on presenting and formatting this whole research. They have been so much help
toward completing and doing the right thing. A huge Thank You for Raja Batrisya
Farzana for being the middle-man between us, the students and the lecturer involved
while completing this case study.
Lastly, for our caring and loving parents and family for understanding us while
doing this research and being considerate of our work. Their patience and love have
helped a lot especially doing this research during isolation at home.
It is a huge blessing to be doing this research and another a huge one for everyone that
has involved while finishing it, direct or indirectly. Words cannot be string together to
say express our gratefulness. From the bottom of our heart, Thank You.

Case Study 2: Geowarisan Gunung Keriang, Alor Setar, Kedah
Case Study 2 - Several Types of Rock Found At Geowarisan Gunung Keriang, Alor Setar, Kedah
Limestone is a chemical sedimentary rock that is often composed of skeletal fragments of marine
organism such as coral, foraminifera, brachiopods and molluscs. As well as minerals calcite and
aragonite, which are different crystal forms of calcium carbonate (CaCO3).
e of Limestone is a sedimentary rock consisting of more than 50% calcium carbonate. There are many
mation and different types of limestone formed through a variety of processes. Limestone can be precipitated
rance from for (non-clastic, chemical or inorganic limestones) , or can form from the shells of dead sea
creatures(bioclastic limestone). Some limestones form from the cementation of sand or mud by
calcite (calstic limestone), and these often have the apprearance of sandstone or mudstone. As
calcite is the principle mineral component of limestone, it will fizz in dilute hydrochloric acid.
acteristic Occur in shades of whitish-grey with chalky texture. There are no visible fossils in these samples.
ures and Smooth to rough to touch but generally hard in texture depend on composition. The hardness of
ical limestone in Mohs scale is 1. Specific gravity is 2.3-2.7, the streak is white, have fine grain
erties size, less porosity, have dull to pearly luster and non-existent of cleavage.
lar Rock Dolomite is similar to limestone. It is thought to form when limestone or limemud is modified by
magnesium-rich ground water.
Use as building material, an essential component of concrete (Portland Cement) ,as aggregate, as
white pigment or filler in product such as toothpaste and more.

Case Study 2 - Several Types of Fossil Found At Geowarisan Gunung Keriang, Alor Setar, Kedah
Through this technical online report based on case study at Geowarisan Gunung Keriang, Alor Setar, Kedah
and Bukit Tengkorak Semporna Sabah, we can clearly know about types of rocks, minerals and fossils. We also can
clearly identify the rocks and minerals features and physical properties, mode and formation of occurence and
similarity between rocks and minerals. This case study has opened our eyes to gain more knowledge about rocks,
minerals and fossils.
Reflection
The completion of this assignment gave a new experience to us especially now we are doing the assignment
without a face-to-face interview and meeting for any discussion regarding the assignment. We were asked to go
through the website of the museum to gain some information and knowledge. Although there are limitations due to
the current situation, we tried our best to complete the report. We also face some difficulty such as lack of
knowledge. Despite that, we should always see things on its bright side. From the reading and some research, we are
now able to differentiate some type of rocks, minerals, and fossils. We gain knowledge of the characteristics and
features for each of the rocks and minerals as each of them have their uniqueness and their own criteria. The case
study task helped us to know what kind of rocks, minerals, and fossils are focused on each area as the existence of
those rocks, minerals and fossils are affected by the environmental condition of the area and is greatly influenced by
the climatic factors. Every fossils that can be found is an important evidence for us to prove the habitat or way of
life people in the ancient times. Overall, this assignment did help us a lot in learning something new as well as
practising our management skill.
