Renewable Energy (Re) Resources: Philippine Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (Wesm)

The document discusses renewable energy resources in the Philippine Wholesale Electricity Spot Market. It provides an overview of the market, including how prices and schedules are determined. As of November 2019, renewable energy accounted for 5,946 MW or 21% of total registered capacity. Solar, biomass, wind, hydro, and geothermal made up the renewable resources. The document also discusses preferential dispatch for variable renewable and feed-in tariff plants, as well as forecast accuracy standards for renewable generators.

Distribution Utilities, Bulk Users
Electric Cooperatives, Private

Real-Time Supply
with Market-Based
Pricing

WESM provides another option for supply of electricity for ECs, PDUs, and bulk
users. Prices in the WESM are determined through competition based on real-
time offers and demand for electricity. 3
