I am Mr Sanju Ranabhat holding passport number 07800485, son of Mr. Tika Bahadur
Ranabhat from Rising- 04, Bhirkot. I am pleased to write this Statement of Purpose for the enrolment in
Graduate Diploma in International Tourism and Hotel Management and Master of International
Tourism and Hotel Management in Southern Cross University, Sydney, Australia. As regards my
academic qualification, I have completed my School Leaving Certificate (SLC) in 2009 securing 62%,
Higher Secondary Level (10+2) in 2011 in Management Stream with 48.60% and Bachelor in Hotel
Management program in 2015 with CGPA of 3.2. I am working in Hotel Barahi, Pokhara as a Restaurant
Captain from February 1st, 2015 till date. I gave my IELTS on April 2017 and scored an overall band of 6.5.
Why I selected Australia has numerous reasons from other countries like US & UK. As I found that
the course fees & living expenses were very much high in other country as compared to Australia and even
the climate of US is very harsh and for international student it’s not suitable to live. Also I will highlight
some of the prime reasons for choosing Australia for my further education. Successful stories told by the
International students from Australia including many Nepalese students become a prime reason for me to
choose Australia. Secondly I found that Australia is one of the top most priority destinations for
international students. Australia has the 3 rd highest number of international students in the world. Australia
welcomes student of every nationality every culture and religion from all over the world. Australia a
multicultural country has variety of culture, lifestyle and art of living. Australia embraces all type of
cultures. Overseas students will definitely not feel alone over there. Australian degrees are accepted all
across the world. It has the world class top ranked institutions and education provider on earth. A student
has plenty to do, learn and research over there. Further reasons which influenced me to select Australia are
quality lifestyle, moderate climate and extremely low crime rate as well as it is one of the least polluted
countries in the world. International student over there have a chance to meet amazing people from all
across the globe and have chance to learn and research through international exposure. And the International
experience and ideas that I will learn Australia will be worthwhile to be applied in my home country. I can
find the similar course in Nepal like Master of hospitality management run by Tribuwan University,
Pokhara university, Purbanchal university. Education system of Nepal base on theoretical base and the
admission procedure is also once in a year. Seats provided by these university is limited and we need to wait
for more 1-2 years to get the admission. If we get the admission main problem is the practical knowledge
and course structure is also the outdated. We could not find multicultural environment in these university.
So I would like to study in multicultural environment in practical base which is only possible in abroad. So I
chose Australia for my further education.
After finding a suitable country for me I researched on the best universities that would provide me the
quality education. I browsed on the internet and found that universities like University of Queensland,
Southern Cross University, Blue Mountain International Hotel Management School, Torrens University
provides the course that I wanted to study. But after comparing the fee structure, course syllabus, university
environment, internship facility, I found that Southern Cross University best suited my need. So I decided to
choose Southern Cross University in order to pursue my further education. SCU is one of Australia’s best
universities in terms of being friendly and having a supportive campus environment. It has one of the best
modern facilities and technologies in terms of modern and latest computers in computer labs, high
bandwidth internet connection, advanced software and applications utilized. It also has flexible degree
options in terms of being able to study subjects from different disciplines. The teaching staffs are well
qualified and have long good experiences in the hotel and tourism industry. Some of the lecturers are
awarded for their excellence in teaching and I believe studying at The Hotel School, Sydney and Southern
Cross University, I will be able to learn immensely from the experts and gain their valuable industry
knowledge. SCU also has a strong record of graduate satisfaction in teaching quality and student support as
it offers industry relevant degrees with a strong practical component.SCU was evolved into a fully-fledged
University with its own identity in 1994 while SCU International was established in 1995. Southern Cross

decision to put a very sizable investment to study it. I also have a Bachelors Degree in the same course and a
relevant work experience. Hotel management is one of the most in demand occupations worldwide
including Nepal and this degree will from Australia will help me stand out from the crowd. Doing some
research into the Australian hospitality sector, I came across many positive points that lured me into
choosing Australia as my preferred destination and this course in particular. I am fully aware of the courses
available in The Hotel School and the details of Graduate Diploma and Master of International Tourism and
Hotel Management. The course includes subjects like Management Communication, Tourism Planning
Environments, Leading and Managing people in tourism and hotel industry, Management communications,

lecturers are extremely qualified and have significant hotel industry experience and expertise, not to forget
some of them also won prestigious award because of their academic excellence in teaching. I am pursuing
the Pathway one year Graduate Diploma leading to one year of Masters of International Tourism and Hotel

absorb the course structure while allowing me to develop critical skills to build a foundation for my career.

in this high growth area. Beside this, we as a student at SCU can experience a variety of teaching
approaches including face-to-face lectures and tutorials. Some units offer online activities, classes, pre-

me as Advanced Standing units for my Masters Degree. Then I will move on to Masters Degree which has
an industry research project, the unit that will enhance my research skills among many others. I will pay
AUD 24,880 each year for two years and looking at the facilities and course structure, I found it to be very
reasonable compared with other universities. The degree is flexible, enabling students to choose a study plan
that matches their career path. I will study core business management units then select from a range of
specialized units relevant to my career path including tourism management, hotel management and
convention and event management. The GradDip plus Master of International Tourism and Hotel
Management from Southern Cross University will help me gain a higher degree to secure senior
management employment in tourism or hospitality organizations. It equips graduates with advanced
business acumen, management skills and specialized industry knowledge considered essential for
managerial-level graduates. I hope to emerge as a confident leader, sensitive to complex issues and
challenges that at times confront the global tourism and hotel industries.
My aim indeed is to become an active professional Hotel Manager. In order to achieve my goal I will
be collecting all of my knowledge skills and principles in an appropriate way in Australia which I will be
bringing back to my home country Nepal. With successful completion of this Masters degree, I will
undertake PSW for 2 years which will sharpen my knowledge in the field of hotel management by providing
a practical job experience. I wish to return to my home country and use my gained knowledge. Numerous
jobs will be up for grabs in different hotels at Local and national level. Dahlia Boutique Hotel Pokhara,
Dwarika's Hotel, Da Yatra Courtyard Hotel and Resort, Hotel Tibet International are some of the hotels that
are in need of some international graduates to help them instill an international standard in tourism and hotel
management. After a successful completion of this degree, I can work in a supervisory or management
position in resorts, hotels, government tourism bodies, non-profit, destination marketing, and tourism
organizations, airlines, convention and event operators and other special interest tourism businesses.
Previously mentioned top revenue generating organizations of Nepal usually offer a monthly starting salary
of around NRs 80,000. As Nepal is in a developing stage and a very attractive tourist destination, many
hotels, travel companies, tourism companies both small scaled and large are being launched day by day
which creates good opportunities in the hospitality sector. So, there should not be any problem for me to
find a job in my country if I attain good knowledge of Hotel Management practices. I do believe that the
degree acquired from Southern Cross University (SCU) will be extremely beneficial to uplift my career. I
will implement all the techniques and principles to prove my potential. Apart from my career reasons, I also
have a family that will be watching closely to how I perform in my studies and return home to make a name
for myself. I have a commitment to take care of them. I have all my family members here in Nepal. So,
therefore my stay in Australia will be limited till the duration of my studies and PSW. The skills and
knowledge achieved in Australia will be precious to utilize in my home country Nepal.
Sincerely yours
